Based off the little info provided, probably the Standard Tele, that is if you're talking about the Fender (made in Mexico) one. All-around better quality, and good if you don't need high-gain stuff (assuming that's what "except metal" means).

Get the Fender.
You will love the sound.
It plays everything and metal with some amp distortion and high gain.
They also feel better.
The only sound you'll get out of a gibson is What jimmy page plays in black dog

That's not more info, that's the same info....

At any rate I'd say a Telecaster is a better value than a Les Paul even though I think Teles are incredibly ugly. That's just me, though.
