I have a crap six string strat, all that I can afford. I cant get a new guitar. I can pick pretty fast on my strat (Guitar/keyboard unison at the end of In The Presence Of Enemies Pt 1 by DT is my fastest speed) but my legato is really bad. When I play higher on the fretboard particuarly, the sound of the legato dies after about 2 notes. I played the school Les Paul yesterday, which costs about $400 AU, and the legato was fantastic with perfect sound. So I must be doing the movements right, why can't I do it on a strat and how can I fix this (excersizes?)?

I think it's because it's a Squeir. Mine does too.

This. Technique has nothing to do with the instrument. Play the guitar, don't let the guitar play you.
