thanks guitarfreak for understanding, and i can play sweeps decently from songs but i now want to understand whats going on like for example A Aeolian is

----------------------------------------------5-7-8--
--------------------------------------5-6-8----------
------------------------------5-7--------------------
--------------------5-7-9----------------------------
----------5-7-8--------------------------------------
-5-7-8-----------------------------------------------

how do i turn that into a sweep?

take the root 3rd and 5th in each octave and sweep along it is a good general rule.

ok a aeolian (minor/natural minor) is a-b-c-d-e-f-g.

the Aminor chord is built from the 1st-3rd-and 5th degree in the scale.

1st-a
3rd-c
5th-e

so you would play them notes in acending or decending.

ex.
e-17-12-----------12-17-
b---------13----13--------
g-------------14-----------
d---------------------------
a---------------------------
e---------------------------

you can also go 3rd 5th 1st or 5th 3rd 1st for an inverted arpeggio

---------12-17-12-------------------
-----13-------------13------------
-14---------------------14--------
is ACEAECA/1351531

----------17-20-17---------------
------17-------------17-----------
--17---------------------17-------

is CEACAEC/3513153 1st inversion

---------8-12-8-----------------------------
-----10-----------10------------------------
--9--------------------9------------------

is EACECAE/5135135, 2nd inversion

EDIT: the key will change if you change tunings, the A minor arpeggios above would become Abminor in Eb standard or Gminor in D standard etc.

Just choose one note from each string and then sweep it...
