Well my guitar is an 80s style single humbucker guitar. It does have a mounting ring but I have noticed that many guitars dont have them, especially for single coils, so I was wondering if they have an important roole or if they just make it look better? I was thinking about removing mine but wanted to know for sure first.

Edit: im not sure if it actually called a mounting ring. It is the thing that goes aroung the putside of the pickup (not the cover) such as on thes: http://dantheman1969.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/84-kramer-reissue.jpg

as apposed to here on a les paul (the cream color) http://img.alibaba.com/photo/11303417/Gibson_Les_Paul_Tom_Murphy_1959.jpg

i think theyre just for added support & to make it look cleaner, so you could take them off, but if theyre holing the pickup on id advise putting them back on

Thanks, I actually think guitars without them seem to look cleaner
