so i can sweep 4 strings with hammer ons and pull offs, etc, reasonably fast. i learned how to do it in 2 hours this morning from teh lesson on this site. i've played for 6 months the 25th. How am i doing? and also, what are some good songs/riffs/licks that use lots of sweep picking?

Sweeping after 6 months is quite good i'd say. And for good sweep riffs learn all of Better By the new GnR cus theres loads in there.

what lesson did you use it sounds like it is very helpful
oh and you should learn to play bleeding mascara by atreyu. at least the intro

Are you sure you're doing it right? Because I'm doubtful that with 2 hours of practice, after playing for six months, you can be doing fast four string sweeps. Is each note seperate and clear?

If you are, well done!

Also, this is probably the wrong forum for your post. Musician talk or advanced techniques would be better suited.

sweeping? after 6 months? are you sure you aren't raking rather than sweeping? coz thats rather too quick to learn sweeping if you ask me...most people can't do it after years of playing, so unless you just have a natural talent...

anyway, if you ARE actually sweeping, thats ridiculously good dude, rock on, can't think of any songs to help though

lol i thought that i wasnt doing it right at first, but im pretty sure I am. At least it sounds pretty similar to the vid i was watching to teach me. And yeah, each notes fairly clear, but occasionally they run into each other. i'm practicing right now as I type to try and correct that.

i'm pretty sure I am, in a sentence, can u define raking for me, cuz i have heard of it before, but dont know what it is. I'm basically doing a 'controlled' strum as the vid and UG article said, but rolling my fingers so it doesnt sound all together like a chord. And i know I am NOT picking the notes individually.

EDIT: I practice a lot, 2 hours during the week and 4-8 on weekends. Maybe that has something to do with it?

eh, ill play the devils advocate.

THERES NO WAY!!

k i will disregard the fact youve been playing for only 6 months for alittle.

it takes far longer then 2 hours to learn to sweep.

now to the other fact, at 6 months it is highly unlikely.

now to the thing no one else has said haha

Well i'll recommend a song. Try Thunderhorse by Dethklok.

And i'll agree with some people saying it is almost impossible to be able to sweep with 2 hours practicing, and 6months playing. Hell, its hard to learn any technique in 2 hours! But, if you did, then more power to ya.

The thing is, can he only sweep in a few patterns, or can he sweep all around the fretboard? Being able to play a sweep in one song but not in others would technically not make him worthy to say "I can sweep pick".

thats true. Right now i've only practiced with basic arpeggio's on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th strings, and i havent tried it in the context of a song yet, hence y i asked for some suggestions.
