Alright i'm only gonna say this once; I wanna do it aurally (au·ral·ly).

anyways. im changing gears on my learning here and hope to make a stride in my music and had a couple questions.

how could one play a baseline that followed the harmony of a song

if you heard a chord how could you build most of it from only one note?

i dont really understand the question...but for walking basslines you need to know scales and know what key the piece is in.

i do; i know about scales and chords and building them

do you just find the progression with your bassline? based on the # system

the song i am looking at is a hip hop song with what is probably a rythm and therfore a voice harmony that is variable????

err, as long as the bass and guitar are playing in the same key (like, C major for example) then whatever each plays will sound good. You could be playing this chord progression: C | F | G | Em | while the bass plays C D E F E | C D E F G | looped, and it'd sound alright coz they're in the same key, or the bass could also play C | F | G | E | it's up to you
