Hey, just had a brainwave, and appologies if it sounds ridiculous to you t00b veterans. But can I get/build like, a tube pre-amp, and then put into the return on the effects loop? Wouldn't that basically be bypassing the preamp in the amp?

Thanks ~Louis

Ah lol. Nice. How would I ensure no kaboom-age, It's a 60w reverb if it helps.

At most it will turn you into a hybrid, and it will lack the power tube crunch. In any case, it will not go kaboomy if you did not run the preamp.

Do I need to match any wattages or anything? And can anyone send a link to either a cheap tube preamp, or a layout, or kit or something, thanks

Another question, can you run the Engl E530 preamp into the effects return of an amp, because the effects return runs directly into the poweramp doesn't it?
#8
^Ya you can.

Basicly your amp will be just acting as a solid state power-amp.

also, ts have you exp. building amps? if not I wouldnt go ahead and do it.

You need a preamp. Preamps send line level signal or something I think, so it doesn't have a wattage rating (or, well, that's what I think anyway). If you run something more powerful into the effects return, you risk frying the poweramp.
