****ed up. the input is messed up somehow. i can only play if i press down on the cord to create a downward pulling on the input plugin. what is going on?

More than "your input jack is screwed" we can't really say; you'll have to take it to a tech and get it looked at or, and this is my preferred choice, chalk it up to experience and get a new, better, amp.
R.I.P. My Signature. Lost to us in the great Signature Massacre of 2014.

I am sure Valvetronix>Cube>Spider>MG in my book

I think the VT and Cube are tied, in the sense that Cube is better for metal and modern stuff, and the VT is more suited for lower gain stuff.

You've never tried a Valvetronix, have you.

I thought the VT I tried did fine for high gain, the Cubes aren't that big a step up from a Spider in my book, still really sterile and the only usable amp model save for the clean sound is the metal stack, which still sounds crap. Rectifier is too buzzy, if you turn the gain down it sounds weak, and all the lower gain amp models are too bland.
A dwarf might hear you. What then?

Yeah, they're both decent for high gain, but I just thought the cube did a bit better.
The cleans and low gain models on the VT i liked better than the cube's low gain stuff though.
Remember, this is just my opinion.

And by better amp, he does not mean a Spider III.
Signatures are overrated.
