as the title says, what does the tone nob on amps do? like the peavey royal 8's tone nob? eg, add/remove mids etc

the same as the tone knob on your guitar does.

EDIT: oh treble mids bass etc... i dont know.

but i tend to have the tone on my amp on full, and have the tone to my preferred level on my guitar.

Lowering it adds more bass, increasing it adds more treble.

For the best tingle, use Original Source mint. That shit feels amazing on your balls.

On my palomino the tone knob does this: turn clockwise- add treble and bass(scoops mids), turn counterclockwise- add mids(take some bass and treble away). I would guess yours works the same way, can't be sure tho.

I don't know what you guys think your tone knobs do, but almost all of them just reduce treble as they're turned down.
