Recently priced a custom guitar from Warmoth, and the end total is roughly $2022.25, and this was trying to realistically see how much the guitar I want would cost. I actually sacrificed some pretty key things and still over $2,000.

So, how much do your ideal custom guitars cost?

EDIT: Some of the features

Alder V2 Body w/ Contoured Heel
Red Dye w/ Custom Burst-Over Finish
Locking Bridge
Maple Neck
Ebony Fretboard
Schaller Mini Locking Tuners
12-22 Scalloped Frets
Custom Wizard Rounded Neck
Stainless Steel Fretwire
DiMarzio Evos Bridge & Neck set (Chrome)
Black Metal humbucker casing
Black Schaller Straplocks

I really think it would be a beautiful guitar. The paint job would contrast really well with the black hardware and the chrome pickups. Plus, it's an alder body, and Evos would just be... amazing.

and just for kicks, Marshall JCM2000 DSL 100 with 2x12 cab.....$1800

i need a job.....

EDIT: using my own lumber..... and it still might be that much....or maybe not.......lets say $1500

Alder body
Maple neck with inlayless rosewood fretboard
Strat non-trem hardtail bridge
Gotoh silver locking tuners
Seymour Duncan '59 humbucker
Seymour Duncan SHR Hot rail
Inbuilt Fuzz factory
Cracked mirror finish
Matt Bellamy Manson Shape

Not sure how much but it would definately be under $1000

PRS custom 22/24, haven't decided yet. thats $3500 +/- $200. but in reality, when you're dropping that much anyways, whats the extra couple hundred for that nice floyd rose or kahler trem or set of emg 81/85's you know?
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not

^^Yeah, I haven't been impressed with any Standards or Faded series SG's...sadly..

^Why Evo's, man?

good question about the evos....

and Gibson makes good SG's (duh...) but there are great alternatives out there-the gibsons arent right for everyone, but regardless, the SG is an amazing guitar imho

^Why Evo's, man?

Evo's are incredibly articulate pickups. They're passive, which I love because it keeps more of the guitar's natural tone. Also, they're very aggressive and high output, but are capable of producing a myriad of varied tones. From Jazz/Blues to Alternative to Death Metal.

Also, I'm a huge Vai fanatic, and I from the research I've done, Evo's are complimented by no wood better than Alder.

I considered a pair EMG 81/85s, Seymour Duncan Blackouts, Bill Lawrence L500XL and a Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates humbucker combination... but ultimately, Evo's are the best pickups I've played and especially considering the Alder body, I dont' think I could go wrong.

It'd be a hella lot because I would have more than one guitar! I couldn't narrow it down to JUST one.

About $1,200. Its a little bit less, but I based all my prices off of warmoth.

I have a stupid question...

Does Warmoth assemble the guitar? Or do they only send you the ordered components?

I have some basic knowledge, but not near enough experience to actually build my own. I would be incredibly pissed if I waited for them to build it, then found a huge box with my guitar in pieces.

I know I read somewhere on their website about how it takes a pretty long time for them to build a guitar, but does that entail assembling your custom order, or just the building of the body/neck, etc?

Yeah, not every pickup is for every person. I definitely respect that.

A friend of mine thinks I'm a fag for wanting to put an EMG P81/P85 combo in my PRS instead of the EMG P81/P60.

P85 is for jazz/blues. P60 is for extreme distortion. P81 is for high distortion leads/solos.

Those are the P-90 model numbers?

The numbers don't have anything to do with the normal pickups, do they? I'm inclined to say they do.
If they do, and I'm pretty sure they do you've got it all jumbled up. I'd say the EMG 60 is for cleans, the EMG 85 is a buzzy kind of distortion more suited for metal, and the 81 is kind of middle ground, and more versatile.

The 60 being a good one for the neck slot, and the 81 being good in the bridge...And that would be a good balanced combo.

300-400 dollars.

TOM
HH pickups
curly spanish cedar top
ash back
curly maple neck
rosewood fretboard
2 volume 2 tone
3 way
LP shape

It'll be made by the end of the summer (I have no time until then)

BASSWOOD BODY + MANGO TOP = $250 + $75.00
MAPLE NECK + EBONY FRETBOARD = $189.00
DiMarzio DP159 EVO = $79.99
Seymour Duncan JB = $72.95
Tune-o-Matic bridge = $99.95
Stopbar - $62.75
Straplocks - $20.00

TOTAL COST = $849.64

That's pretty expensive right there with warmoth prices.

I really want an Ibanez JEM and an ESP LTD EC-1000, but overall, this build that I'm talking about is superior to both, IMO.

Then what about all those great reviews? I realize that some of them are from the company, disguised as actual users, but not all of them are.

Honestly, though, I don't care what you say about it. I still want one.

I lack the money and tools to build a guitar, let alone THAT guitar. It can be bought for much less than it can be built.

yeah true, but thats not what its about man.

its about holding it every day, playing it, knowing its yours and no one elses, not mass produced by chinese/korean children and machines. thats what its all about, that alone is worth any amount of extra money too me.

On ESP's online custom quote i got $5300 for mine. custom Double-Neck Viper (their SG style)

FLCL is pretty amazing. Also, a friend of mine answered the question if Warmoth would assemble a guitar or not... so I guess when I order this in the next few months, I'll be promtly delivering it to the guitar shop in town.

AND THEY BETTER NOT **** IT UP, OR THERE'LL BE HELL TO PAY.
