So I've been writing alot with augmented chords and I was wondering how some of you guys approach soloing over augmented and diminished chords. For augmented I usually use whole tone but lately i've been getting into lydian augmented becuase Its pretty similar to whole tone just with more possibilities. But for diminished chords I'm kinda clueless, I no that theres locrian for m7(b5) chords and the half whole and whole half diminished scalles. What I wanted to know is where to use the differant diminished scales ie half whole and whole half.
Whole-half is generally used over the diminished chords; half-whole is most commonly found in the context of a dominant harmony.
And if its a C dim. then the whole half is going to be C,D,Eb,F,F#,G#,A,B,C
Wouldn't certain modes of harmonic minor work over the right diminished chords? I don't remember my harmonic minor chord constructions that much off the top of my head.
well the 7th mode is called a diminished scale sometimes. It consissts of B-C-D-Eb-F-G-Ab-B so it seems like that would work.
