Ok, so Im going to be getting a new guitar soon. Im running a DK2M right now through a VHT 50CL and a Marshall 412. I am going to be playing stuff from post rock like Mogwai/Russian Circles, then stuff like Converge. I am thinking of getting a telecaster but the problem is they have coils and I dont think Ill be able to get the converge type gain I want. I am thinking of building a warmoth Jazzmaster but not sure yet. I want something kind of vintage looking (Fender type stuff) and I am looking to spend $900-1000 max...probably used.

If I run coils in a USA fender tele through my VHT on high gain, will they get too twangy and sound like ****? or will I be able to get the gain I want?

actually, they just lowered the prices of the jaguars and jagmasters to like 800 bucks.

so yeah... that might be in your price range, and might be less expensive than building your own jazzmaster or jaguar...

What telecasters are a solid make (as in like a well built USA) and have humbuckers? All I can think of is the '72. But I think thats japanese

Yeah, I can definitely replace pickups. If I just got a tele, what would be my best bet for a higher gain pickup for the bridge?

Seymour Duncan coolstacks are my weapon of choice, but these are designed just for Telecasters:

The guy from JustinGuitar.com uses this in the middle position (of a three pick up Tele, which is realistically what you should get)

A Gibson Mini Humbucker in the neck

And this in the bridge:

Yngwie Malmsteen uses these:

In his three single coils.

I hope that helps.

I think if you buy a guitar online from Musicians Friend you get a 45 day trial period and you might be able to get your money back if it sucks.
