so i felt in love with the looks of a natural explorer and im really looking forward into buying one... i cant try anything here cause there are no gibson dealers. so i was thniking about the Epiphone 1969 Korina Explorer or the Gibson Explorer in natural. the thing is, i like the epiphone more for looks cause the gibson's natural finish is a bit darker. but how do they compare to each other? thanks

imo you hould go with the epi. its cheaper but it still has good quality. and you like the looks better. obviously the gibson will sound better but not really that much in my opinion. a good thing to do would be to go try them both out.

I hear the Epis do have pretty fair quality to them: not Gibson level, obviously, but definitely a good guitar. Might want to change the electronics, especially the pickup switch, but aside from that, go for it.
Do YOU know who Les Paul is?

Guitars:
-Epiphone Dot Studio
Amps:
-Fender Stage 112 SE
Effects:
-BBE Soul Vibe
-Boss OD-1 Overdrive
-Ibanez DE-7 Delay

There is a Gibson dealer in Malta (Knight Music) and thier stuff is a little over priced on what I have seen. Why not consider a Epiphone 1/3 the price and good quality.

I have owned my black Epi Korina explorer for about 7 years and has been a fantastic guitar. Great sounding wood and not too heavy and the neck feels better than my Dad's $4500 Gibson in my opinion.
Also stays in tune forever.

There are a few problems that I initally had though and will point them out for your benefit.

1. The guitar doesn't balance at all really when you are using a strap - it nose dives, forcing you to hold it in place with your right elbow when you play.
Solution - Move the neck strap button to behind the heel of the guitar - it balances fine here.

DO NOT use the same screw to put the button back in. I did this and it broke off leaving a nasty hole with a broken off screw in the back of it - annoyed me for years.

2. Electronics are rubbish. The toggle switch died 3 times and then died again recently. Hardware seemed to be fine apart from the gold tarnishing very quickly, I replaced all mine with chrome Gotoh stuff as well as changing the pickups.

But all in all it looks mean and it sounds great to - so go get one.

I hope this helps.

I own the Epi Korina Exporer and it has been my main guitar for about 4 years now and I have never had a problem with it. I may look to upgrade soon simply because it has been so long but for the price it looks and sounds incredible
