i was at the guitar store the other day and i saw a roland jazz chorus for $299CDN

its a head i think it was a JC-120

i dunno if i should pick it up, a lot of people rave about it

i really like the overdriven tube tone,
but i also really like decent cleans.....hmm...

and i was gonna sell my laney and save up extra $$$ to buy a mesa express 5:50,

tell me what you guys think

I don't know what Canadian dollars are worth but that sounds like a great deal. If i was you i'd buy it and save up for another amp for your OD tones (what Laney do you have?)

Well the Jazz chorus is one of the best SS clean amps, it's perfect if you want really glassy cleans, of course the OD on it is crap though. What styles of music do you want to play? I would certainly reccomend buying the JC and buying a second amp for your OD tones then when you're playing live just split it with an amp selector

That is a great deal and maybe you could either keep the Laney with it or else buy a good overdrive...But i still maintain that you could buy the Roland, sell the Laney and buy a second amp for your dirty channel

the type of overdrive im looking for right now is the more dark and grunty type of OD not the smooth searing Laney typical EL34 distortion

but im always on the look out for great cleans

...comon guys keep the opinions coming...

i just might leave work to go grab it

Well if you were to go with my idea, buy the JC sell the Laney and buy another amp for OD what do you think would be your maximum budget for the dirty amp?

$1500 cdn at most
but thats gonna take a while

the cheaper the amp the faster i can get it

its not easy to save up money right now, every time a get paid i take out a certain amount and put it in my amp fund, and thats usually the "amount" i use for food" LOL
.. i mean i dont wanna eat dirty ramen and old cheetos for 10 months ...

But you don't need headroom at all if you have the JC for cleans.
I guess you could look at something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Peavey-5150-Amp-Head-Original-Block-EVH-with-NEW-TUBES_W0QQitemZ290239126326QQihZ019QQcategoryZ10171QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I suspect that's a pretty rare head. I'd be interested just for that reason. I have a JC-77, and it's definitely a really cool, clean amp. If you like to use chorus at all when you play, the built-in chorus on the JC's is really outstanding. A lot better than the EHX Small Clone, which I also happen to really like.

But if you need any OD at all, you won't be happy with this as your only amp.

Also, I think you should be on the lookout for a Mesa F50 head. I think it would serve you well for your clean and dirty sounds, and could probably be found in the $700 range.

i dont believe that man,

which store is this and where?

the guitar store i just went to Long and Maquade, said when they get used JC-120s
its usually sold around $999, which is a rarity, and the head is even rarer,

ive been to many guitarshops in ontario vancouver and quebec and not once have i seen a jazz chorus head

lol i just went out and bought the amp a few minutes ago
the plug is missing the ground prong, so its gonna be fixed

it wasnt in the best condition but, damn i really liked the sound, even the distortion was alrite, the clean sounded better than my laney

...now im gonna hafta eat old ramen and dirty cheetoes for a couple months, cuz of this amp..........
