so i was wondering the other day "wich strings to use?"
actually i use elixir 'cause i need stainless strings (sweaty hands...eww...) but i said...well this strings are pretty expensive (in mexico they cost 18 dollars) so i checked some strings forums and i read that D'addarios are pretty cool and stuff like that.

i bought the D'addarios and pff...they are sh1t. i hate the tone, they say something about non-corrosion (and i just bought them a week ago and they are rusting).

so can you give me advice on some good stainless strings, 'cause elixir are way to expensive for me, i bought a set of dean markley blue steel(the guy from the store said they were good. i have to test them)

Blue Steel is good stuff. I prefer Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's, though I don't have sweaty hands. Perhaps just put some baby powder on your hands before you play? Might help. Or buy a cleaning cloth for your strings once you're done playing. Will help them last longer.
I got some good guitars, yo.

So wait, let me get this straight. You usually use Elixir strings, yet this one time they happen to be too expensive?

I wouldn't take ernie balls. a few weeks ago I broke my B-string and bought an ernie ball.(only one they sold seperatly) the other strings (d'addario's) are at least 2/3 weeks older and still less rusty than that ernie ball B-string

Wear gloves.

I use Ernies, Skinny Top Heavy Bottom 10-52s on my hollowbody and Super Slinkys on my Crate. May not last long, but I don't really care. They're cheap enough (and have good quality tone) that that doesn't matter.

Is the sweat from your hand or dripping into your hands? If the latter, get like a sweat band or something. Or, like I said before, wear gloves.

The 'non-corrision' bit you are thinking of is just their packaging, which stops the strings from corroding as they are kept in a warehouse somewhere...

I find that D'Addarios last the longest out of the big 3 (D'Addario, Ernie Ball and Rotosound), I think they're rusting because you don't know how to keep your hands clean :P

I found a pack of D'Addarios in my old case that had been there for almost 2 years and were hardly rusty. On a whim, I put them on my guitar and they've lasted a good 3 months so far, knock on wood.

I think your problem has more to do with your sweaty hands than with the D'Addarios - they've been good to me, at least.

Are you serious? D'addarios are the best string ever made. Ever.

And if your strings rust, you're doing something majorly wrong.
#26
i have the same problem, my hands get mega sweaty, i shook hands with satriani the other day and he looked at me like i was a disease

anyway elixirs are the only way to go, but the way to make them last longer is to solder round where the string is wrapped round that little ring, and up where its twined round itself, this will stop it breaking from whammy bar abuse, and mine last up to 4 months at a time, so itll be cheaper than any others hope that helped x

EDIT: presuming they dont rust, if u get your elixirs rusting then you should go to a sweaty hands specialist lol

how long do you keep strings on your guitar?
i replace strings every single month, except when i dont play a guitar much. i never ever ever ever ever get rusty strings. ( i usually use GHS Boomers, .11-.50)

Too lazy to spend 20 seconds washing your hands, yet not too lazy to change strings much more frequently.

Elixers are coated D'Addarios....

Which strings are going bad on you? If it's the plain strings, Ernie Ball might last a little longer if your sweat doesn't corrode wtih Ernie Ball. If it's the wound strings, I dunno what to tell you, I've never had any wound strings go bad.

i have no complaints with both D'Addarios and ernie balls except that i have a hard time finding D'Addarios in 8-38

My hands never sweat? EB Power Slinkys can last me REALLY long without rusting ( I get lazy sometimes ). I've been wanting to tryout DRs.

if you sweat as much as you say you do and really dont want to keep buying elixers youre going to have to wipe down your strings man no matter what brand you get.
#34
Ernie Ball strings last a good amount of time for me and sound the best. Thats whats most important to me, especially for the price.

If you get stainless strings they are harder and will wear your frets faster. And only the wound strings will be stainless the plain ones are still plated steel. And most stainless strings can be hard to come by at a store. Wash your hands and clean your stings after you play they last much longer that way.
#36
A good median in price and performance may be DR's... They cost more than EB, Dean Markley/GHS/d'Addario (all of those are made by the same company, hence why I lump them together), Fender, and Rotosound, but are less than any coated strings. They also last about 1.5x times as long as though (I can push them to two months if need, but by then they are shot for sure). If they don't last, you're not doing something right.
#37
Ernie ball strings man. the are called rust magnets by some people but i'm really digging the tone from them and if you wash your hands befor you play and get some string spray you should be golden with ernie ball strings
#38
it doesn't seem like alot of people do this, but i find it really keeps the rust off the strings and helps them last, like, 1000x times longer if you just give them a little wipe down with some baby oil after you play.

plus, they smell nice.

and i use earnie balls (super slinky).
#39
thats the problem. if you dont wipe the strings, no matter what strings you use, they wear out fast.
