So I gave Acid Bath a listen, and I gotta say, that's some freaky stuff.
Didn't really get into a lot of the songs, but I never give a verdict on a first listen. Definitely interesting stuff, and fantastic drumming.
Dyer's Eve is awesome, and has an abnormally large penis, which doesn't act as any hinderance to his everyday life despite its freakishly large size.

I will avoid Tour Buses like the plague if I ever end with a Touring band, and I'll also avoid letting Roadies drive whatever vehicle I'm in. they might be a part of the conspiracy...

Ok so what's the story with this Acid Bath band? I've heard of them, but haven't heard any of their stuff.

Acid Bath are a New Orleans based "sludge metal" band. Their first album was 1994's "When The Kite String Pops," a very death metal influenced record, but in a very unique way. Their last album was the follow-up 1996's Pagan Terrorism Tactics, which I've always descirbed as "Alice In Chains meets death metal with an Undead Jim Morrison as a front man." Vocalist Dax Riggs typically wrote violently psychedelic lyrics and delivered them in a way that could remind one of a classic "crooner" a la Jim Morrison or even Dean Martin... yet risen from the dead and infected with leprosy. The band came to an end when bassist Audie Pitre was killed in an automobile accident.

Dax Riggs went on to form the "indie rock" band Deadboy and the Elephant Men, as well as the heavier Agents of Oblivion. Guitarist Sammy Duet went on to form the American blackened thrash act Goatwhore.

Recommended listening:

From WTKSP:

Scream of the Butterlfly ( remember what I said about Jim Morrison?)

From Pagan Terrorism Tactics:
Pagan Love Song
Bleed Me An Ocean
Locust Spawning
New Death Sensation
Venus Blue
13 Fingers
Dead Girl

There ya go!

Sream of The Butterfly is, for lack of any other word, hypnotic.

I have a feeling that this is the start of a beautiful new friendship.

Wow I really like Acid Bath! I hate finding new bands only to find they're defunct

I want to go as far to the edge without going over. Out on the edge, you can see all kinds of different things.

Orange Goblin, Electric Wizard, Acid Bath, Bongzilla, Alabama Thunderpussy (love that band name xD)..
#62
^ My old band back in CA. set up a show w/ ATP when they were supporting Fulton Hill w/ Rwake... they rocked so hard... my drummer actually had them crash @ his place, so we all ended up back at his house drinkin' and smokin' with the guys in the band... except Ryan Lake 'cuz he was all tired. All great guys though.
#63
Electric Wizard and Sleep are awesome haven't much else though, waiting for Cathedral and Orange Goblin to download.

(I don't bother with youtubing bands first, lol)

Cathedral isn't really a Stoner band, more like a Doom band with Stoner influences, but still an EXCELLENT band (yes I had to do that in capitals). One of my favourites.

^Doom =/= Stoner, if you think so, you have not listened to enough of doom metal

Man, I've listened to more doom that is good for a person, haha.

Obviously doom =/= stoner, but as I said, I personally consider the same because (A) It doesn't matter and (B) why the music is different, the feeling is the same. I listen to Winter, Reverend Bizarre, Boris, Grief and Kyuss for the same reason (and not to smoke weed too, haha). While all of these bands have clear cut differences, the line for Stoner/Doom is so blurry, I decided a long time ago to not give a ****, and call it all doom. Why? Because its all awesome.

But thats just my personal doom philosophy. Obviously I wouldn't go around talking about Candlemass in this thread.

They are under stoner metal in the rec thread because Carnival Bizarre is a clear cut stoner album, but the rest of their material after that is stoner/doom.

Alright, hahha, fair enough
You gave some good reasoning there, even though I still disagree

Personally, I can't see how one can think that Kyuss and Candlemass are similar in sound, atmosphere or feel, but it's just a matter of semantics in this case, so who cares...

Lol, I listened to Freedom off of Caravan Beyond Redemption and it starts out all metal, but then it's like porn music (rake picking with a wah) for a bit.

Kyuss is an overall incredible band. Blues for the Red Sun is one of the greatest album's ever made. There's no disputing it. Sleep's pretty awesome too.

Sky Valley is infinitely better than Red Sun, I think.

Nobody's mentioned Corrosion of Conformity? I kinda lump my doom/stoner metal/rock into just a group that I call "Riff Metal/Rock" so pretty much:
Down
Saint Vitus
Spirit Caravan
The Obsessed
Trouble
Goatsnake
Baroness

...to name a few
Black Sabbath
Pentagram

Love CoC man, seen 'em twice. awesome, aweosme band. Seen Down once too.

But if yer gonna count Deliverance, Wiseblood, AVD, and ItAoG as stoner metal, then you might as well thrown Load/Reload in there too, 'cuz they're very similar records... but I'm not sure any of those qualify as "stoner metal."
