My gf wants new pickups for her les paul standard. She just says she wants it to sound more like my strat. I take it to mean she wants more clarity and more top end.

She knows there wont be anything that will sound just like single coils. But when we compared her guitar to mine, the difference was clear. My pickups sounded a lot less muddy (even though she wan in my rocker 30 and I was in the microcube)

I cant help too much because im a single coil man. Ive been looking at rockmonkey and bareknuckles cus in my opinion if you're gonna get new pickups may as well get handwound quality.

Surely if she wants it to sound like your strat, you could just get a cheap strat. I mean, there's not much point having a les paul that you want to sound like a strat. Or does she prefer the Les Paul style?
I'm looking to buy an Epi Valve Standard. If you've got one up for grabs in the Uk, PM me and let me know.

Prefers les paul style, and loves how her guitar looks so were not talking different guitar just better pickups.

Get a low-output humbucker of some kind...

Or maybe she could install a single-coil between the bridge and neck pickup.

It'd require some routing, of course, but it's possible.

Good Seymour Duncan Pickup (for example a sh-5 custom) and a coilswitch and she can switch from sorta-strat-coilsound to les paul humbucker drive by the flick of a switch.

have you considered getting new pups with a coil tap installed? best of both worlds right there

A coil-tap would more than likely be the best solution.

Not very. Just some push-pull pots and a wee bit of rewiring.

If you're looking into rockmonkeys, drop chris an email, helpful guy.

For ideas, maybe look into P-94s?

if you can soldier then not very hard at all. you would need a push-pull tone pot though. If you can't soldier i'd take it to a luthier to install the new pups and tell him you want a coil tap installed
