Thats the question, as in, if i run a cable through the effects loop and use the level controls to use it as an attenuator.

Is that bad?

its impossible to use it as an attenuator. you can use it as a master volume though. youll gets lots of preamp distortion, not power amp distortion.

Actually, if you want to save some bucks and get something that sucks less tone I would look at Ted weber's stuff. I have one of his attenuators and they work very well and are reasonably priced.
