I've been searching for new amp for a while now, and many of you have helped out a lot. I had originally been planning on getting a 5151 II/6505+ and a 2x12 cab. BUT since yesterday I've been recruited by a pretty big band to play. I'm talking 3-4 shows a week, summer festivals, regional tours big. That being said, it looks like a 4x12 is going to be needed. We're going to be playing some coreish melodic death metal, tuned down to drop B(most likely). So my question is what would be a good cab suited for that style of tuning. My first thought was Vader, but they're pretty damn expensive. Any suggestions?

A 4x12 isn't gonna be any louder really. If you're tuning that low you might want a bass cab.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

I know it's won't be any louder. I just had no need for a half stack before b/c I wasn't in a band, but now that I'll be playing live, I want a 4x12. I just think they sound better than a 2x12, sounds more full to me.

I don't think a bass cab will be necessary, Drop B isn't THAT low. I play in Drop B through my combo and it works fine. I want a cab with a good low end, but I don't want to sacrifice the highs either.

Well after our first practice tonight, it seems we're going to have a lot less Death and a lot more Metal, so I'm not going to need as much bass...so I think I'll look into a 1960, Mesa or Avatar.

Those are good choices. Don't forget Randall cabs too. Look at local used listings. You can get great cabs for decent prices used.

Okay, here's the deal man. I have a 5150II and a Mesa/Boogie Rectifier 4x12 cabinet. The Boogie is simply amazing. It handles all styles extremely well and is very balanced. The V30's are a little bright, but with a low-tuned guitar, it sounds deep and ballsy. I would recommend buying one used off of eBay or Craigslist. It might sound a little iffy, but I bought mine off of craigslist for $600. I actually still have three years on the warranty, because it is transferrable to the new owner.

True. G-flex's are ported cabs, giving you fantastic low end response. Run about $630 new last time I looked.

Yea there's plenty of Mesa cabs on craigslist for ~$500. I'll just have to see how much money I have left over after the amp head, and go from there. Thanks for your help.
