if you've ever watched House- the guy who plays him is actually british, can you tell from his accent? i can't!

a lot of british bands use american accents on their vocals.

but every time i've heard an american attempting a british accent, it always sounds either too posh or just crap. nobody has talked like that since the BBC stopped using those frankly rediculous accents, and that was decades before i was born.
??? Fund: cba to keep up with it.

..it usually sounds bad as well *cough lost prophets cough*

It's true though. I was watching something the other day and was like... he's American right? Yeah, poor accent.

Hugh Laurie is, however, a genius.

There is no such thing as 1 american accent.
and there is no such thing as a "british" accent either.
there are 4 different countries making up britain not to mention the numerous regional accents from each country...
just thought i'd throw that out there.

Most Americans I've heard trying to do an English accent just go straight for stereotypical queens english, and make a hash of it.

Anyway, it's unwritten law that Liverpool has the best British accent.

Exactly. The guy in House, Hugh Laurie, just generally masks his EXTREMELY thick british accent, and it sounds American. Don't ask me what kind of American accent, I don't know

But what I've seen of Americans doing 'British' accents is the 'posh' talk or a London accent.

All ending in epic failure.

Calm down,calm down

The worst accent HAS to be from the West Midlands,i.e. Birmingham-where "cup of tea" becomes "kipper tie".

Best is from Devonshire

Most people who fake American accents don't fake a regional accent... most just go with the standard midwest- California- Northeast accent.

Boston accents are teh sex, though. It's impossible to speak with one and not sound incredibly tough.

Yeah, Birmingham is insufferable.

The "british" accent you're talking about isn't necessarily a british thing... when you sing, you get tht sound from opening the inside of your mouth and rounding out your vowels (like you would when singing choral music). It's not really an attempt at a "british accent", it's just a style of singing.

UK: England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland.

Britain: England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland.

thats the two for you.

i've never really compared the difference between the north and south of Ireland. they just sound the same to me.
