how is this done? I know the neck pocket has to be at an angle for a tom bridge, but how do you measure and how do you create this angle by hand (with a router). thanks.

i measure with a protacter (very high tech i kno ), then shave or file the top of the body where the pocket will be to that angle. then i chisel or rout or dremel tool or drill out the neck pocket at the angle, using the angled top as a guide....

You have to work that out depending on the guitar.

It can be done by angling the neck pocket, or angling the tenon that goes into a flat pocket.

I think I read that if you recess the tom bridge then you don't have to angle the neck. Is that true?

If I used a strat style bridge, would I have to angel the neck?

edit: or like an rg hardtail bridge.

ok, well I just got 5 board feet of maple (1"x6"x10') so i guess it's time to make a build thread. I have to decide on the bridge because I dont know if it will be too hard to do the tom bridge with the whole neck angle thing, so decisions, decisions.....

you have some choices... you can use rails and trig out where and how high the elevation needs to be or you could always just make a neck with an angled heel...

or you could recess the TOM bridge... that's always an option...

ok, well I had never heard in my 2 years of being on ug of project guitar. I read ormsby's guide to neck angles and many other tutorials and i'm glad I didn't start doing things before then. I realize now that I didin' know as much as I thought I did so now that I have new knowledge I can begin.
