They're expensive because the tone is worth it

Although in relation to your question, it's a definite "probably". Might not sound that great though, plus you need to make sure the impedance matches that of your cab, and that the cab can handle the wattage that the power amp puts out.

But you might still better benefit from a tube power amp designed specifically for guitar.
