I am! IDK if this is a good thing or not. It feels more natural.

Are there any famous economy pickers?
#2
I pick alternately, it allows greater control of dynamics and articulation.

Ecomonmy picking is perfectly fine, Malmsteen is famous for using it as his default picking technique, as is Frank Gambale.
My name is Tom, feel free to use it.

Yes exactly like that. Much more difficult to get master than some might imagine.

definitely stick with the alternate. i have no reason to economize.
...because the last thing the world needs is another metal guitarist.

I like Fall Out Boy. I don't like you.

Some of you may not realize that economy picking is alternate picking except when changing strings. Might need to check yourself when playing again.

Yeah. people, like Lemoninfluence, are hypocrites and should have all their opinions invalidated from here on out.

I'm naturally heavily influenced by Paul Gilbert, so I'm an alternate picker. Gives me better attack and control.

I used to do both; Economy picking going from the bass strings to the treble strings, then Alternate picking going the other way around. Now I use strict alternate picking.
#20
I use both for certain things, I also use straight downpicking, hybrid picking, and finger picking sticking to one or two picking style is very very limiting.

I used to but I was way sloppy and not even that fast so I switched to strictly alternate altough once Im happy with my speed in that I will probably relearn economy.
Sig What?

Economy picking is just always taking the shortest way to attacking the strings. So if you it had a downstroke and then move to a string below the one you just picked you'd also downpick as it is closer.

If you are just playing on one string it'd be identical to alternating picking. How the f°ck can you be doing both? One time just stick to strict alternating, and other times just play economically? I've been economy picking since I first picked up a guitar, came naturally.

Yes and no, i pick to the beat, but rake as well, so i mix it up. Which is true economy really, finding the best picking method at the time.
#24
Economy picking just seems much more efficient to me personally so that's what I raised myself on. I don't understand why people would alternate pick then use an economy technique such as sweeping... why wouldn't you just take the most efficient path to the next string ALL THE TIME? If you discipline yourself you can get just as much control out of economy as you can alternate.
