This is my first time trodding in the advanced technique forum, I don't know if this is an 'advanced technique' but I consider myself an intermediate guitarist who can atleast work out what the guitarist is doing even if I can't replicate it well, but I have absolutely no idea what Thomas Youngblood from Kamelot is doing in the intro solo to Forever on their DVD one cold winter's night. I got the audio for it before I got the DVD and since I was puzzled I went straight to that song, unfortunately they decided that a small drum fill would be more important at that one moment. It's the only time the camera strays from him so it's quite annoying . Anyway, can someone please identify what he's doing at 0:52, and give it's name, and if possible a video of someone doing said technique.

Thanks.

i think he's picking a not and very quickly hammering notes and releasing to harmonics

He was tremolo picking artificial harmonics. Just look it up on youtube

No.

It's called auto-flanging - as you trill, lightly brush your right hand on top of the strings near the bridge and you'll produce various harmonics.
