Do any of you guys do this? Or do you mainly shop by brand?

I've been looking at a new guitar, and wanted your help.
They both cost the same. But I realized the voting might be biased if I give away which brand is what.

So vote either Guitar 1, or guitar 2.

Guitar 1.

Set-thru construction.
25.5" scale length.
Alder body.
3-pc. maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard.
Locking nut.
43mm Nut width.
Extra thin U neck shape.
24XJ Frets.
White binding on neck and headstock.
Black hardware. (Grover tuners, Licensed FR.)
EMG 81 active set pickups.
Master volume, master tone, 3 way toggle switch.

----------------

Guitar 2.

Bolt on neck.
25.5" scale length.
Alder body.
Rock maple neck w/ scarf joint.
Sealed die-cast tuners.
Maple fingerboard.
24 Jumbo frets.
Seymour Duncan TB-4 JB humbucker in the bridge.
Seymour Duncan SH-2n humbucker in the neck.
Master volume, master tone. 3-way toggle switch.
Licensed FR tremolo.

And yeah.
Vote away.

Depends what you're using it for.

also, awesome idea, I wish more people would do this so people wouldn't just say "this brands always good" or "that brand always sucks".

Woops, forgot to include that.
The guitar would be used for gigging/practice. And would best be suitable for thrash/alternative/metal/whatever.
Pick up swaps will be considered also.

those both look like they're Schecters... not that i'm biased, i like them.

I would probably take the first one w/ the pups from the 2nd... i'm not all that into EMGs. just my opinion.

Yeah, pretty good idea for this thread.

Me personally, I'd be going for Guitar 1.. and not just because I'm fairly certain that it's an Ibanez, Jackson, Schecter, or ESP (my four favorite brands, coincidentally). Granted, I personally hate Licensed Floyds.. but I suppose they work okay. (My ESP MH-400 has a Licensed, and I don't have any problems with it)

Either way, yeah it depends on what you'd be playing/using it for. Either could be used for a multitude of genres, crossing the spectrum at several points (they're usable for the same ones). Again, Guitar 1 is my choice.

Oh, and I agree about using the second pickups on the first one, but really, EMGs will do just fine. (My one issue with EMGs, though is that at this point, every guitar is using 81's, which is depressing if you want your own sound. Duncans come in a HUGE variety, so they're usually a better choice if you want your own tone. )

i'd choose guitar 1, although im not a fan of EMGs, they would suit the styles you want.
Ibanez RG321MH (Air Classic/Tone Zone)
Fernandes Telecaster (Twang King/stock bridge pickup)
Blackstar HT-20 (Scumback 55 speaker/ Tung Sol tubes)

I"m not a fan of XJ frets (jumbo is almost to big for me), I'm not really a total fan of EMGs, but the set neck is good (much better than bolt on), So I'd say the first one just because of the neck, but I'd like the frets on the 2nd one better. I guess those are the good qualities of each. I'd probably go #1, hate to say it just like everyone else, but it seems like a better guitar.

Yeah, I'm not too much of an EMG fan boy either.
But, they do sell fairly well here in Australia. So I could sell them, and buy some different pick ups if need be.

you can always swap pickups. guitar 1s main attraction for me is the set thru neck.

These are so different! One has a maple fingerboard, the other rosewood. One has humbuckers, the other EMGs. You have to make this choice on your own, it's basically personal preference.

huh?

the EMGs are humbuckers... did you mean Duncans?

really you can try to buy a guitar based on specs but the first thing I ever do before even thinking about buying a guitar is seeing how the neck feels in my hands and how I can play on it.

So now that you guys know the brand, which is the preferred guitar?

i have not played the esp but the jackson was a great guitar the only think i did not like was that it was a bolt on

Ps You cannot go wrong with either
#30
Guitar number 2, as I think it's a large step out of the ordinary. Maple fretboard is uncommon, and I personally wouldn't go EMGs. I also prefer bolt on because the neck can be replaced if necessary. No comfort issues on it for me either.
#31
Alright guys.
Thanks for your help. But I think I'm going to get the LTD.
Very sexy guitar.

First is my guitar, ESP M-1000. You will not regret buying that guitar, it plays like it costs twice as much. Incidently, doesnt Glen Drover play one? I think i saw it on a megadeth DVD. That being said, it is amazing.

EDIT: ididnt see that the first one had a licensed floyd. Anyways, look into the m-1000 if its in your price range.

True.
Well, I've found ESP LTD's 'Thin U shaped neck' Very comfortable.
Haven't tried the Jackson, but I will soon.

Unless you've played both a jackson and an ltd, I suggest going to a shop to try one. The spec's on both are great, but it comes down to neck feel really. So play each if you can and decide which feels "right" for your hand.

My Jackson RR1 has the most comfortable neck I ever felt. It is thin and fast neck-thru. The set neck ltd is going to feel better than the bolt-on. my other guitar has a bolt on and the other has a fatter set neck. The thinner one on my rr feels the best
