Ok... So my Grandfather is giving me this black 1989 Chevy Camaro. It needs alot of work and money. The front of it (mostly just the hood) looks like S*** (a small tree fell on it), the tail-light lense is busted, and the headliner is falling in.

It needs a new fuel pump and a new radiator, and something else (can't remember) but whatever it is it's only like $40.

My G-paw says it will take only about $250 - $300 to get it running again. BUT, it will cost alot more to get it to look good.
Is it worth it? Would YOU try to fix it? I LOVE Camaros, so I want to do this, but I'm not sure...

See how much it would be to sort it out and get it how you want it then weigh that up against how much you earn, how much a decent condition one would be to do up and your own preference - if you want a little project, go for it.

Couldn't agree more. This is a camaro, not a mustang. Camaros are sexy no matter what model or year it is.

Are you buying the car or is he giving it to you?

Would it be cheaper to buy a similar car than to make the repairs and stuff?

I would spend the few hundred to fix it up

Personally, I woudln't bother with it. With gas prices going up, despite how cool the car is, the value is going to tank if gas goes about $5 in US.

Reasons not...
Not that great of gas milage
it's going to take about $2000 in work outside of a paintjob
They're not rare
You could buy one in much better condition for less than $4k
They weren't very fast, unless of course it has a crate engine
The reliability is going to be poor. Not matter how much money you put into it, you're gonna have to keep putting more into it.

Other than that, they do have a cool 80's look, and the car is a legend. If you have about $8k you could make that a serious car, otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

It would not take 8grand to get that car looking nice! Is it a v8 or v6 car, auto or standard? Either way you cant go wrong. It will be plenty dependable. If it's a v8 it will be plenty fast.

True, gas prices are skyrocketing, and that can't have good gas mileage.

Well, my g-pa says it got about 24-26 MPG, if yer careful on the throttle
i guess it's not HORRIBLE.

my buddy had an old camaro, I think he put like 5 grand into it and it looks great now, his dad owns an autobody shop so he put a sick engine in it
( can't remeber what it is because Im not really into cars- could be 450 something dunno if that makes sense)
but anyway, its so fast, it kills any mustang in a race
My favorite band is Tool.
