Welcome to the Blues & Jazz Album Number 2 thread. After the success of the first album, i want to start the next album. We have enough great blues and jazz guitarists in our little subforum, so lets show the rest of UG what we can do.

With the last album, we considered selling it, and giving the proceeds to a music based charity in Canada, but we weren't able to because some of the songs were covers. This time, all the songs will be originals, so this is your chance to be charitable.

The previous album is available for download here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S500NO6S

I felt that regulars and guitarists on the previous album should have the first refusal for places on the album. These people have been sent private messages. If demand for the remaining places on the album is high, i will let people vote for which songs make the album, as was done on the UG Original Album. Those people who were given first refusal are exempt from this vote as their place is guaranteed.

Rules:
  • All songs must be originals;
  • The deadline for the album's completion is 30th September 2008 - NOTICE THE NEW EXTENDED DEADLINE
  • Your song must be blues or jazz
  • Everyone is welcome to try out for this album, irrespective of skill level, how often you are in the blues & jazz forum, or your gear
  • Everyone can submit a maximum of two songs. If you've been given first refusal, you are guaranteed one song on the album. You can put your other song up for the vote
  • My decision is final

Hey neil, I've got a rough cut of my song on the profile. I need to re-record the vox and I might touch it up here and there. Do you think it sounds ok so far?

Thanks for all the advice with the recording situation.
#3
No worries. The song sounds really good. Im sure that when you record the vocals again, it'll sound great on the album!

Hey, neil, I know you want them to be originals, but what about traditional songs?
#7
well, i say originals because it would mean that if we sell it, we don't have to face any royalties issues. I suppose that no one owns a traditional song, so yeah, traditionals should be fine

Hey, I'm really interested in doing this but I have a couple of questions. Is there a limit to the length of the song and how do you want me to give you the song?

There is no limit really as long as it's reasonable (i.e. not 13 minutes of solo wankery) and just record it and email the MP3 to Neil is the easiest way to submit the song.

Subscribing to this thread now. I think I'll just re-record my latest song and submit that sucker and possibly try to get some kind of electric song done aswell to put up for vote or whatever.
#10
Yeah, basically, make it a normal length song. I suppose a minimum of 1 minute and a maximum of 10 minutes, but it depends on whether it suits the song. You could have a 15 minute song, but if its incredible, then i wouldn't have a problem with it. But i would suggest that you make it reasonable.

When you finish the song, put it on your UG profile so that others can listen to it, and if it makes the album, then you just have to send it to my email.

Can i sign you up?

I've just finished the review of the first album for the UG Team. I hope I've done okay; my expertise is not blues, so I've tried my best.

Awesome.

You have any idea when it will be going on the front page?

Hey I just got my wisdom teeth out, so I probably won't record vocals for a bit, but instruments are being recorded as we speak.

I hope it will be up by Friday; but my computer broke down, so I submitted it a little late, throwing the timing into a bit of chaos!

i didn't get the song, but it might be because you sent it to my old email address. I changed mine a few weeks ago. Its a great song! What ill do is put this on the album, but if you want to change it later, ill swap it, or put both on the album, depending on numbers.

Cheers

Hey gents. I do confess that upon reading the review again, I felt that I could have discussed the music a little bit more. Rest assured, I will try my best to improve on that next time.

Take care.
#31
Sweet. Nice review man.

But no mention of me

Thanks for doing the review again, and hopefully this next album will be on the front page too.

Our page views for the album went up by like 100x Great way to promote our playing and hopefully get some people into the blues that weren't before

click on the all mp3's tab and they all show up. Unfortunately only the ones that show up initially on the page are getting the increased views.
#35
Yeah, there's like a couple with only 15 plays, and there's some with like 200.

can neil , or whoever created that page, change who is in the front page and put the ppl on the other page on the front so they can get a chance to be heard. if not, its not that big of a deal.
