I have been looking for a guitar for a while now and i have changed my mind about a thousand times! I want something that can play anything from the most brutal metal to low gain shred. I dont want to spend more than $600 and i dont really prefer Epiphone(not to say they're bad, just not my style). I dont like EMG's. Too basic. What should i look into. I'll be running it through a Randall RX half-stack.

I think it would be safe to say that any kind of superstrat kind of model with some nice pickups would be good for metal.
sigh...

cause he wants authentic tone.. not battery powered loudness

it really depends on your tastes. go to your nearest GC, tell a guy what you like to play, your budget, and preferences (trem/no trem, single or hum.. etc.) and he should be able to help you out.

^^Mustaine, Dimebag nor Chuck Schuldiner used actives.

I say +1 on the Dinky, or save up some more and get a used Jackson KV2 off ebay. Some go for like $1000-$1500. You'd be set...pretty much for the rest of your life! Haha.

There is no such thing as the "best guitar". There is no magic answer.

I know you don't need actives for metal. My band plays a lot of metal and I don't use actives. I was just saying that many, many metal artists use EMG pickups and asking more of why he doesn't like EMGs. I guess I worded it pretty badly though.

To be fair, the Edge III will last you a year or so before it starts to lose quality.
