Yikes. I sat down to record today (Audactiy) and my sound is WAAY too trebly. I've turned down the treble pretty much all the way on my amp and it still sounds REALLY fuzzy, especially for power chords.
Any remedies? Mic placement an issue?
Turn the gain down a fair margin, and work on your mic position.
Seconded Mr.Pillow's suggestion. Your description is a classic example of a beginner recording electric guitar with too much gain. *Everyone* does that at first, until someone like Pillow comes along and says "try less gain" and they do, and find out "whoa! I never would have guessed that less can be more!"

Could I get some more talent in the monitors, please?

I know it sounds crazy, but try to learn to inhale your voice. www.thebelcantotechnique.com

Chris is the king of relating music things to other objects in real life.
Especially if you're layering tracks. Low gain is one of the key points to huge hi-gain guitar sounds
