I currently own a Fender Starcaster Strat guitar. I bought it from best buy with a small 25 watt Squire amp for about 200 dollars. I wanted to get an actual Fender strat, but I needed an amp so I just got the Starcaster since it came with an amp. But now I'm sorta unsatisfied with its tone, the hardware, and just the way it plays. So I'm thinking of upgrading to a Standard Stratocaster or a Standard Fat Strat depending which one I like better when I try them out. But I want to know if there is actually that much of a quality difference between my guitar and a Standard Strat.

You should do both really, a Mexi Strat and a new amp. But yes, the Mexi would be much better than your current guitar. You're just not going to be able to appreciate the tone improvement with that amp. It'll play better swell though.

Ok you guys have reassured me. But I still have to decide between my the HSS or SSS. I play Rock, Alternative rock, Classic Rock, some Metal, and sometimes Blues, so I'm thinking of getting the HSS becuase I think it could handle metal a bit better or I could later upgrade the humbucker to something like Seymour Duncans. But, I'm still not sure which one I want.

I have a SSS Mexican Stratocaster and wow they are amazing for what they are. I haven't tried the HSS but if its anything like my SSS then its a steal man and a massive upgrade.

I'm not really liking those. The two humbuckers make me think that they are only good for Metal, and Hard Rock. I like the trebly tone that comes with the Strats pickups, so I'll just stick with them.

Nothing wrong with an MIM Strat. I say go for it, it'll be worth it.

If you like the trebly tone go for the SSS. If you want to be able to do a little heavier stuff then get the HSS.

Thats true. But I don't see the point of suggesting a Mahogony humbucker guitar with a FR when the TS made it quite apparant he was after a STRATOCASTER.
