Does anyone know of any cheap tube amps for under $200? I was looking at Guitar Center, and tube amps are friggin' expensive. Someone said that Craig's List is the way to go. So I was looking and I saw these 2 amps. Are they any good? http://stlouis.craigslist.org/msg/711658594.html http://stlouis.craigslist.org/msg/720495792.html

I don't think the Peavey Bandit 112 Transtube Amp is a tube amp. But what about the 1973 Peavey Classic Series A Guitar Amp 200 watts 4x10?

You could get a Peavey VK Royal 8 for not too much more than that, if that much. Itll only be 5w, tho. But its still all-tube.

What do you play?

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Rock, Alternative, Hard Rock, and Classic Rock. What's wrong with the 1973 Peavey Classic Series A Guitar Amp 200 watts 4x10? It's all tube, right?

The old Peavey Classic Tube series of amps are under-rated. They can get a nice jcm800 like crunch once turned up. I've played the 212 and loved it, but I've never played the 410. Keep in mind you'll need an OD to get any hard rock tones out of it.

Doesn't seem like it. 200 watts sounds like a bass amp, anyway.

Anyway, for your genres, I'd say a Palomino V8, a Crate V5, or a Blackheart Little Giant (also made by crate).

They all have a master volume, which makes it easier to overdrive the tubes without a pedal. The Palomino sounds pretty good, if not great for Classic Rock and Alternative, but the speaker is kinda small. The V5 comes with a 10 inch speaker, and has a bit more of a low end than the Palomino. The Blackheart can come in a mini-stack config, with a 2x12, and would probably be the best out of all the options as far as sound, but it runs over 250, I believe.

As long as it's all tube and good quality I don't care if it's 1,000 watts.

you will when you can't turn it past .5 and not get a good tone if you play at your house

Can you guys please give me some pros and cons of the 1973 Peavey Classic Series A Guitar Amp 200 watts 4x10? Keep in mind I also need an amp that can gig.
#12
Cons-LOUD AS HELL. Good luck turning it up past 1 most times. It also means you are going to have to deafen people to get the tubes to break up. If you do get the Peavey, PLEASE get an attentuator.
#13
if you gig with that 200 watt amp you'll have to deal with casualties, and thats never any fun.

The 200 watts is louder, but it's mainly there for headroom on the amp. The high headroom will keep the tubes from breaking up, resulting in louder cleans available.

Something tells me that that isn't a tube amp, or isn't 200 watts. I can't find any info on it. Is it a craigslist listing? Can you link some info on it?

After looking at the pic of the back of the amp, it's definitely not 200watts. I can only see 2 tube sockets. That would mean, depending on the type of tube, a max of ~60 watts. My guess is the seller is going by the rating of the transformer.

Exactly.

180 bucks is a nice deal, though.

Definitely a nice deal. As I said earlier, the 212 I played was able to get some nice crunch. And with an OD pedal it will be killer for hard/classic rock. And given the price, if you don't like it you can easily sell it for what you put into it.

I feel a lot better that it's not 200 Watts!!!!!!!! A 60 Watt tube amp is just what I'm looking for!!!!!!!!!!! It's set. I'm gonna go to his house and try it out. Any last concerns?!?!?!?!?!?

You may not like the 410 config, but other than that, just give it a good look over before you decide.

yeah. it's not a tube amp. at least not in the common usage of the term.
it's a hybrid, and not an exceptionally good one.
solid state preamp, bipolar transistors for the most part, including the phase inverter.
2 6L6s in push-pull for the output.

not the worst amp you could buy. for under $200 it's not bad, if that's what you want.

this amp bears absolutely no resemblance to the 212.
the ONLY link is the word Classic in the name.

The seller is a liar, because he said that its powered by a 200 watt amp. SomeOneYouKnew, where did you find that information about the 1973 Peavey Classic Series A Guitar Amp 200 watts 4x10?
#30
^Out of those, the best is the palomino. The Crate is garbage, and the AD50VT is a SS hybrid modeler, with the tube in the power stage of amplification.

The marshall is just a cab, and you would need to get a head for it.

EDIT: If I were you, I would get this

What's so good about it? I also forgot to say that the reason I want to get a tube amp is because I started a forum about choosing a distortion/over drive pedal, and everyone told me to get a tube amp. So I also need an amp that will sound good with an distortion/overdrive pedal.
