I'm still a beginner when it comes to recording hardware and software so feel free to correct me if I am wrong in my assumptions. I'm looking for a good entry-level package to start doing some recording. I've narrowed it down to these two.

Digidesign Pro Tools Mbox 2 Factory Bundle

M-Audio Pro Tools M-Powered/M-Audio FireWire 410 Recording Package

The Mbox 2 is a USB interface and the M-Audio 410 is a FireWire interface. I have both USB and FireWire ports. I don't know which is better. I'm leaning towards the Digidesign bundle but if someone with more recording experience could provide some more details and advice that would be much appreciated.

You don't need Pro Tools IMHO. And Firewire's better, since you can record separate tracks.

You can probably get something of better quality (and easier to use) by trying Cubase LE or Mackie Traction that comes with many recording hardware. Is $500 your budget, and do you already have a MIDI keyboard?

Yeah, personally I wouldn't go with Pro Tools, not for a home studio or beginner. I'd rather go with something like the Mackie Onyx Satellite, which is a Firewire interface and comes with Tracktion 2, which is a decent piece of software.
There is poetry in despair.
