Next time use a sharpie and put the key on the CD front...
If you are still using the same computer you should not need the key...

seems fishy to me...like you are just trying to get free software...

*looks up more info*
Cubase uses a dongle, right?

in that case, contact steinberg and tell them you lost the key but still have the dongle. They MAY be able to get you back up and running. Without a dongle though you cant do anything but buy more software. Steinberg will not send you another dongle.

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-dongle.htm

Its similar to a USB storage device (thumb dive) except you cant save to it.
Avid editing software uses this hardware as well as other high end software producers.

If you dont have this or know what it is you are trying to steal the software...which cant be done anyways.

Haha, nice try. Seems fairly obvious that if you don't know what the dongle is, then you probably downloaded the cracked version and couldn't get it to work. At least if you are going to steal the software, actually take the time to read how to use the crack!

If you didn't steal it, sorry, lol.

Yes it can, there are several really easy ways to get around dongle protection, so all they really do is serve as an annoyance to people who actually buy the software, also I think only the high end versions of Cubase use dongles the low end versions packaged with some audio interfaces usually don't.

Yeah, LE and such don't require a dongle, but SX3 definitely does. There are ways to avoid the dongle though, it's true.

Well he never said he had SX3, so there's a perfectly good reason why he wouldn't have a dongle or know what one is.

look for a crack, I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to link you to anything (even though you really have a legit reason to use one) but they aren't hard to find, esp if you use torrents.

I was thinking that he mentioned SX3 in the original post, my fault for not checking.
