Hi pit, I know that ur not a doctor or a therapist but I'd still like to ask your advice for my sleeping problem.

I usually sleep just 4-5 hours at night sometimes I stay up whole night like this night. And I just can't get sleep when I hit the bed, does anyone know any good ways to get some sleep?

Cheers

no, what you need is healthy, natural sleep. chew some valarian root and get some exercise.
you wanna see real pain? stop by the church on tuesday nights, check out the testicular cancer support group. THAT'S pain.

nearly 15. Ya i'm not either really active or even want to be, I just play my guitar whole day so I have no time to do some exercise and I have no motivation to do exercise, thanks to our dreadful gym teacher he is an old colonel of finnish army and you can only guess how strict he is.

i understand where you are coming from bro, hm atleast you play guitar all the time, i am starting to play less and less *punch in the face*. what i think you should do is go outside liek to your friends house, or bring them over and jam and stuff, i do that and that's pretty as active as i get, and that's kind of enough, for me anyway. plus its good for your music, i learned A LOT just by playing with other people.

Ya I got a band we usually play together few times a week and I really think it is fun to jam around but it just keeps breaking my nerves that drummers can't stfu for 5 seconds that is pretty active to do but it isn't gonna helping me to get any sleep, too bad

Step 1
Don't sleep in. Try to wake up early and enjoy a beautiful sunrise or some bull**** like that.
Step 2
Lay off the caffine during the day. I need some to be fully awake, but try to consume the minimal amount possible
Note: Do not, I repeat for added effect, DO NOT drink caffine within the 8 hours before you plan to go to sleep. It can last in your system that long.
Step 3
Attempt to get some form of excercise during the day. Take a walk around your block and wave at all the old people. Just try to get your heart rate up for 30 minutes a day
Step 4
Do not watch tv, read, or jack off in bed. Bed should be kept a place that your mind associates with sleeping. Reserve it for this purpose.
Step 5
Do not eat or drink anything in the half hour before you go to bed. Your body should not be processing that chili cheeserito from taco bell when you are trying to sleep

Follow this and you should get a good night's sleep.
Trust me, I have mild insomnia and this was my doctors advice to me.

-Exersize a few hours before you go to bed.
-Cut out all caffeine from your diet.
-Masturbate right before you go to bed(no seriously it does help).
-Eating before you sleep can help, but it can also make you fat because your metabolism is slowest when you're asleep.
-Smoke Ganja.
-Relaxing, or really repetitive hypnotizing music can help.

Go to a ****ing doctor. Why is everyone on the pit so damn afraid of doctors

i know its not healthy but take some energy pills... like stackers. Me and my friend thought it would be neato to do before a 4 hour show one time. needless to say, we crashed pretty hard core about 3rd set.

If you can manage to cut out coffee, it would be a big help. Just drink less and less each day so you can slowly get used to staying awake without coffee. Then you can have restful, stimulant-free sleep!

Lol that is gonna take a while I usually drink around 5-7 BIG cups of coffee a day, so you can only imagine the consequences if I stop drinking coffee too fast

A few years ago (maybe 2?) i was having serious problems sleeping. I actually went to my doctor to see if he could prescribe me. he said that i did have a case of mild clinical insomnia, but didnt want to give me any heavy duty meds. instead, he recommended an herbal supplement called St. Johns Wart - wierd name i know, but its a crushed flower in pill form that helps to balance ones sleep-wake cycles.

It actually helped quite a bit - its not a knock out drug and doesnt have any immediate results, but it really did help after a while.

lately though, i have just been taking tylenol pm, nyquil, or several benadryl at night about 30min to an hour before wanting to go to bed to give it time to really set in. I use the benadryl in a tongue strip form (quick dissolving - like listerine strips) and a few of them really knock me out.

Just cut down slowly, Like make 1 cup of coffee less than normal for about ten days, or until whenever you get used to that. Then start drinking 1 less cup a day again, and repeat the process until your done.

madefortvmovie I think ur advice might work but i'm just not really into drugs in a problem like this, I should work it that way that I can get sleep by myself

- non-drug related advice -

this year while i was up at college and having the same problem, i actually found a list of advice from the National Institute of Health (im just copying and pasting now):

Avoid emotional upset or stressful situations before bedtime.

Avoid using alcohol in the evening. Avoid caffeine for at least 8 hours before bedtime. Avoid smoking, because nicotine is a stimulant.

Eat a light snack before bedtime. Foods such as warm milk or turkey contain a natural sleep inducer called L-tryptophan.

Establish a regular bedtime, but don't go to bed if you feel wide awake.

Exercise regularly, but not in the last 2 hours before going to bed. Exercise, especially aerobic exercise, has been shown to make people fall asleep faster and get deeper and more restful sleep. Sex can be a natural sleep inducer for some people.

Relax by reading, taking a bath, or listening to soothing music before going to bed.

Take your TV or computer out of your bedroom. Otherwise, your brain becomes used to the stimulation and starts to expect it when you are there. This makes it harder for you to fall asleep.

Use the bedroom for bedroom activities only. Once in bed, use creative imagery and relaxation techniques to keep your mind off unrestful thoughts. Avoid staying in bed for long periods of time while awake, or going to bed because of boredom
