Who loves the hollowbodies on UG?

The group made for this is pretty weak, so I'm starting a thread, just like the RG owners, etc..

If you have one, plan to buy one, look at them, or like them at all in any way, post here.

This'll be a place for questions, answers, trials, and tribulations encountered with hollowbodies and/or semi-hollowbodies.

Can't control feedback? Need recommendations for certain guitars?

Post here!

EDIT:

"Weak" as in there aren't a ton of members, and I'm trying to rally us all together.

Did you? The search didn't bring it up, that's why I posted this.

EDIT:

I own an full hollowbody Ibanez Artcore AF75 in Transparent Red Sunburst. It's awesome, and I play it all the time.

The Casino is a full hollow with P-90's so it feeds back like a son of a bitch. The Sheraton II is the cream of the crop as far as Epi's go.

I think the dot is good in that it resists feedback more, but it's also fairly cheap.

Josh Homme has one, and uses it in Queens of the Stone Age, like in Lullabies to Paralyze.

The only thing that makes me not like the Casino is that Epiphone pitches it as "the Beatles' guitar", and I'm not a fan of the Beatles.

I have seen some damn beautiful Casinos, though, like in a creamy light blue.

EDIT:

Well, that thread is more of a group promotion thread, this is more of a thread-thread, if that makes sense, as it's not directly tied to any groups.

yeah that kinda brings it down cuz everyone just associates it with the beatles..

^True. I'm more of an Ebony finish man, myself.

The Dot is a very good guitar, especially after a pup swap. It won't sustain as much as a Sheraton, because the sustain block is lighter, but it is still a very good guitar. As far as feedback, it won't do as much as many people think, because of the fact that it is a semi-hollow as opposed to a full hollow, and it has humbuckers as opposed to singles.

Another guitar to look at is the Ibanez AS series.

I personally like the black/ebony 335s, as well as the black Memphis 335s.

The Sheratons are nice though. I just haven't seen a color I liked from the ads I've seen.

^Well, to be truthful, I'm transferring back up to Sacramento due to money issues. It is a good school, however. If you live in Mission Viejo, you should be golden, though. The campus is beautiful and the people are nice. Not exactly a party school, though. It is also known as "The University of Chinese Immigrants" because of the high asian population.

I should've been more specific, the thing I don't like with the Sheratons are the pickguards. It looks like a plastic emulation of plywood to me for some reason.

I'm a huge Gretsch guy, though.

On the cheaper end of their line-up, I really like the G5122 Electromatic in red, as well as most of the colors on the G5120.

I've got an Epiphone Dot Studio. It's alright, but the pickups arne't quite right for me and Dots are too much of a pain to upgrade for me to use it much. It's mostly used as a 'quiet acoustic'.

Still, I want to get a hollow Telecaster with two P-90s, a hollow Strat with two humbuckers (both these guitars would have F-holes - F-holes on Strats and Telese are awesome!), and my Les Paul is heavily chambered anyway and almost sounds like a semi-hollowbody.
Yes, I know everything. No, I can't play worth a damn.

Don't have one but I plan on owning one soon. I've been looking around but can't really find one that is right for me. I want an Indie rock type sound and I tried out a blue Ibanez Artcore Series the other day and it sounded pretty nice. Anyone know of any other hollowbodies within the $500ish range with a great Indie rock sound?

Depends on what you want exactly. My artcore is mahogany with a birch top, so it has a warmer tone than a maple guitar.

There are a lot of guitars in that price range that could pull that sound off. Try the Epiphone Alleykat.

I'm curious about semi-hollow guitars, although I haven't tried one out yet.

What draws you to them? What distinguishes the tone? What sound do you like to get through them that other guitars don't quite get?

I assume that the tone would be a wee bit thicker than a solid-body due to the vibrations resonating through the body.

1. They are so damned beautiful

2. They have a distinct fat, yet smooth sound

3. I love the way they sound for slide guitar. Solid bodies don't quite have that bite with slide.

Many years ago, I bought a Gibson ES-330. Well without me doing anything about it, it turned into a collectors item. I love the hollow body, and I love the P90 sound. But since I "double" on sax, flute, wind synthesizer, vocals, keyboards and guitar on stage, it is a sure formula to put more dings in a collectors item.

So I bought a used Epiphone Casino to play on stage. I love both of them.

Here they are:

Casino.

It's lightweight, you can play it as an acoustic, and it has that wonderful P90 sound.

That's my opinion, YMMV

That ES-330 is hot. Is it brown (i'm colorblind)?

They have a vintage ES-330 at my local guitar center. It's tagged at $4500.

Also, how does the Casino sound against the 330? I've never played one (a 330 that is.)

My first electric was a semi. I had saved up for a Les Paul, but fell in love with the look and sound of the used Ibanez Artist AM50 my local shop had hanging on the wall:

My other semi is an Ibanez Artcore AM77. It is far from stock:
