Epiphone Les Paul Standard(Vintage Sunburst) VS Epiphone SG Standard ( any colour really)

I currently have a G-400 custom.

In my band I play stuff like: Ateryu, RATM, Escape The Fate, Silverstein, Underoath. I honestly can't think of all the stuff we play atm, but theres a taste of it.

Alone, I play stuff like: Zeppelin,G'n'R.

Which is best for me?

Ive had a few eipphone les pauls. They are great guitars. Im not sure about the SG's but go and check both of them out. See which one you like better, then buy that one.

Go back a week later and buy the other one too!

ok in my opinion the only real difference in the guitars is that the sg has a higher sound than the les paul, they both sound feel and perform great, just the les paul has a more bassy sound, while the sg gives you more top end, they both play excellent for what you are playing, and depending on your set up you can change and play just bout anything on these guitars, no matter which one you get, it also depends on the pick ups your getting (for the sg i mean) the humbuckers and open humbuckers sound almost identical but if i remember right you can get the P-90s for the sg, which give it a smoother sound not really ment for what you are playing (of course that is just my opinion)

but either one would be a very nice buy

search function is better.
but you cant really go wrong with those two guitars.
id choose the les paul.

How about getting something different than the guitar you have already?
Get some variety.

Well, since you already have the SG, and you seem to be considering the LP a lot, why not buy it as a second guitar? Anyway, as far as your repertoire of what you play, both guitars suit it pretty well. There are a couple of things you mention (like RATM) which pretty much any guitar with a functioning bridge humbucker is going to be all you need, and a couple other areas where I'd go for an LP (obviously for GNR). Tonally, the LP is darker than the SG, and it will sustain a little more. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. Obviously easier fret access on your SG etc.

I know Atreyu likes SG'S (the solo on Becomming the Bull, a few quick shots in Doomsday), RATM uses stuff older than Les Pauls and SG'S (I think), Silverstein is somewhere on the 'Emo/screamo/metalcore/metal scale' so I'm sure they've used an SG at one point, same for Underoath. But Slash perfected the Les Paul, so it really all depends on what you like the most. If you really like the SG, get another one, if you want something different, get the Les Paul.

Hmm let's see. SG's are a bit lighter and they use a more bassy wood. Les Pauls have a better warm tone, more midsy. It seems like all the stuff you play with your band is better suited for an SG, but all the stuff you play alone iswould be better with an LP.

Yuou already have a G-400, which IS the Epiphone SG Standard, if you like. Personally, I prefer SG's because of the lighter weight and better design e.g where the selector switch is placed. Tone wise I prefer the SG too. However, as you already have an SG, go for the Les Paul.

Well, I guess i'm getting the Les Paul. Time for some guitar porn! lol, Colour suggestions? Vintage Sunburst good?

i was under the impression a Epi G-400 and Epi SG Standard were the same things...

Anyways, id Go with the Les Paul because the SG would feel nearly identical to your g-400

If it were Gibson, I'd say SG all the way, but I've never liked the way Epi did their SGs. And is you already have one (the only good one they make, imo) then I'd say get the Les Paul. They're better than Epi's SGs, and it'll be a fresh new guitar for your collection.

The vintage is black around the outside, but the honey is a nice caramel colour around the outside. There's quite the difference.
