Alright so I've bought and returned 3 amps in the last month. I can't find an amp that has a OD/Distortion channel that I like. I'm playing with my Deans (Razorback, 84' ML), a Jackson Soloist, and my Custom Kimaxe. I play metal and hard rock (Chimaira, Lamb of God, Pantera, Metallica, etc.)

All these amps are 212 combos
So far I've tried:
Randall RG100G3 Plus
Bugera 6260
Line 6 Spider Something-or-another (Sounded digital and fake)

I'm tired of spending the gas money and time changing out amps. I'm looking for an amp that has a nice OD/distortion for around 600-700 bucks that is gig capable. Any ideas??

Valveking212 and good OD pedal.

Done.

you think a valveking would be better than that bugera or that randall?
i'd have to go mesa, not sure which kind, but i know that there is going to be one that can nail all those tones

right Metallica is a given. Personally I like to pretend the bus exploded and killed them all in '86.

Do they make a Mesa combo in that price range?

Try a Roland Cube amp. Or better yet, a Mesa Boogie.

What?

Used JCM800 combo. Might be a stretch, but it looks like you have high standards.

eh i wouldn't get a 800 for that
you should try one but it would have to be low wattage, cranked, and a od in front for it hit that stuff consistently

Lol well I haven't came across a Marshall amp I've really liked in my price range, so I'll stay away from those

I looked at the B-52s before, but I've heard they're unreliable and built poorly.

Jeez, you are really finicky with your tone. I'd advise saving a few extra hundred so you can get a new range of options.

Lol the Marshalls are nice amps, don't get me wrong, but they don't pack a distortion I like. I want an amp that has a heavy distortion without the muddiness. The Line 6 did alright, but it sounds too digital.

Well the bands you listed all use different voiced amps.

Pantera- SS Randall
Metallica-Marshall slaved Mesa boogies
Chimaira- 5150/6505
Lamb of God- Mark IV and Roadster

My vote is a mesa if you can find one used. Next would be a used Peavey XXX or 5150. And for Pantera just pick up a line 6 uber metal pedal put it on pulverize and there ya go.

I've tried the Randalls... They have some of the best cleans ever
but the distorion is hard to use for some reason. I really haven't found a Randall that has a thick and chunky distortion without the muddiness
Unless you invest in an MTS Series

Spider Valve (NOT the Spider III)?

Other than that, there aren't really high gain amps in that price range that you haven't tried and subsequently dismissed.

Well I've got a Randall RG200G3 and I tried the RG100G3 Plus and they just don't seem to hit it right
My friend has a 50 Watt Tube head of theirs, not sure which model and it was pretty much the same way

Buy an old silverface bassman head for like $300, and then add 2 or 3 extra gain stages in it.

^ i was about to say that have you tried an OD with any one of these amps maybe thats the thing you need.
also id suggest a bugera 333XL.
if you didnt like the 5150 try out a 6550 some guy here has one and i saw his page, its frieken awesome.

I've always ran OD pedals through the clean channel. Can you run them through the distortion and come out on top? I've always seemed to have crazy feedback from doing this through the distortion channel.

I've never had a light OD pedal, I wonder if you can run one of these through the distortion??
