I searchbarred it and didn't find what I'm about to ask.
Who do you think, amongst the folks above, is the best modern-day guitarist?

None of those

I believe I said of the above few, select one.
Why bother posting if you aren't gonna contribute? GTFO.
I put Jack White because he is a good guitarist, regardless of whatever your opinion may be.

I am contributing. And there are a lot of other modern day guitarists.

Out of those 4, Tom Morello and Jack White are the only creative ones. It's close but I'd say out of those 2, Tom Morello. But dude, not gonna lie, that list isn't very good.
#13
I'm pretty happy that nobody voted Synyster yet.

I would have to say Jack White out of the choices but Synster Gates? He is terrible IMO. But theres really no best guitarist it's all an opinion.
#20
gates is a good guitar player, but i would ner say hes great so i don't want to vote for him.
Tom morello isn't even all that good, but is so innovative and creative that he makes up for it so idk
jack white im sure is not up to the standards of the two former and i don't listen to fall of troy, so im not gonna say anything about him

edit:but out of all modern day guitarists, the greatest is steve vai, hands down

I really don't care for a single one of them, in the way of them being good.

You also didn't define if you meant best musician in terms of songwriting, or actually playing.

Nobody's going to ever agree with any list. You did a good job of having a variety of styles up there but you need to add more. Add people from different styles like John Frusciante, Steve Vai, Mark Tremonti and people will start to have more choices and you will get more votes. I'm not saying anyone has to like those guitarists but just add more choices/styles.

I say early 90s to present day, actively making music and the like. I included Syn Gates because I want to debunk all the people that live near me that think he's some divine guitarist.

I voted for Jack White, but I hardly listen to the Stripes any more.

So I say Jim James of My Morning Jacket.

Oh... so this is A7X bashing and you fueling your opinion of a guitarist...

Well lets put it this way; he is a better guitarist than you and will probably be more famous then you'll ever be.

And the problem with the argument of "Who's a better guitarist?" is that each and every guitarist is better at something than the next guitarist. I guarentee Steve Vai couldn't pull the wacky sounds Morello could, but Morello could never play with the technical competency that Vai plays at. So who's better? It's all a matter of opinion.

Coincidentally, I listen to A7X and happen to like the band. I just don't think they should idolize Gates because he can play fast. That's not talent in my book. Skill, maybe. Talent, no. I can play several A7X songs at the same speed that Gates does, thank you very much, so...

that's a pretty short list.

Out of all of those... I'm not really sure who'd I pick. I'd probably pick Morello on the sole fact that he is associated with MAB.

But, I think the best modern day guitarist is Eric Johnson.
He's still pretty active and is pretty cool with the guitar hero kids nowadays.

Although his music isn't my style, Buckethead is up there too.
Call me Wes.

I'm not basing it on how much they've done. I'm basing it on talent, skill, creativity, and execution.
Buckethead, to me, uses too many effects. I don't really like it. Morello and Erak are as far as I'll go on the effects.

ok this poll is ****ing ****. Try adding Rusty Cooley, Jeff Loomis, Chris Broderick, Jani Liimatainen, Marco Sfogli etc. not the n00bs you mentioned above.

Personally, if their still alive I consider them modern day guitarists.
