I know a lot of the members here like metal, I was wondering about my fellow ug-ers that play another genre.

Personally, my band plays alternative rock; Foo Fighters, Goo Goo Dolls, Third Eye Blind type stuff.

I play a lot of genres, myself.

I like to play stuff like Satriani, Pocupine Tree, and a lot of jazz. Sometimes over metal (which is actually what my bands play...). I always say, that when you get bored of guitar, play stuff you're not used to...works everytime.

Dont really care much for metal-

I like the 60's/70's classic rock stuff.... you know like psychadelic rock, flower-power rock, hippie music, that kind of stuff. I also like some folk rock such as Bob Dylan or CSN.

Instrumetal you mean!

Nah, I don't play modern metal, it's too ****ty and just loads of penis engorging chugging and harsh noise. I prefer classic metal, like Megadeath, Iron Maiden and the like. My favorite playing is still Shred, though.

Yeah, cos anyone who's into classic metal wouldn't be able to spell Megadeth.

I do.

But I play everything else too. I used to be in a funk/classic rock band, and I loved it.

But metal is where my heart lies

I told myself I wasn't going to come into this thread for this reason.

But anyway...I am involved in a post-rockish type band, and we'll usually play coffeehouse-type shows...the "scene" is sorta shitty (mostly shitty singer-songwriter kids) but I just like playing. Although I am also working on a doom band...rofl.

Classic n00b mistake usually proving one knows very little about Megadeth.

I play in an Indie rock band which gets local gigs. I am also in a metal "band" which has no drummer or vocalist, just two guitarists and a bassist writing metal - waiting for a decent metal drummer and singer to float into our lives.

Not directed at anyone in particular, but it must be pretty hard to play classic rock when the 60's and 70's ended 30-40 years ago. Granted, you can play stuff that sounds like classic rock, but classic rock is definitely more of a time period rather than a genre.

same as this guy

i find it hard to take some " metalheads" seriously when it comes to music. my friend is in a " suicide black metal " band, so he calls it. it just sounds so trying to be badass to me...
