I've decided that from now on I'm going to buy all my CD's from the bands I admire and listen to. I've came up with a shortlist of albums that I'll be buying when I get the funds!
-Appetite For Destruction [Guns N' Roses]
-Lies [Guns N' Roses]
-Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 [Guns N' Roses]
-Live Era [Guns N' Roses]
-Love [Cult]
-Electric [Cult]
-Sonic Temple [Cult]
-Born Into This - Limited Savage Edition [Cult]
-Dreamtime [Cult]
-Dark Side Of The Moon [Pink Floyd]
-Contraband: Tour Edition (2CD) [Velvet Revolver]
-Izzy Stradlin And Ju Ju Hounds [Self-Titled]
-Nevermind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols [Self-Titled]
-Youth And Young Manhood [Kings Of Leon]
-Legend [Bob Marley]

Anyway, I was wondering how many people here choose to pay for the music they listen to, or download illegally?

mix of both. most of my music is downloaded but i dont even listen to half of it. i just like having a bunch of full albums on my zune incase i want to listen. but i always steal first, if i download the album and find im listening to it over and over again then i go buy it. also if the CD comes with a DVD or something then i will buyi t.

I pay for it.

As a signed artist with people buying my music, I know how much it would piss me off if someone torrented my albums.

Download. But if I really like the band, I may buy special editions with dvd or remastered songs, and go see the band.

I can't remember the last time I downloaded something illegally...it might have been when Avenged Sevenfold's latest album leaked...

I always buy stuff online now.

I buy the CD if there a small band who need the money , but if its U2 Or metallica then i'll download it

Good choice of music by the way, I see you like Guns (I bought all there albums aswell). If I really like a band I look up there Cd's but if i'm not that into them or I can't find there Cd (as you may find with Izzy's music) then I download it.

its an reflection of how crap full albums are compared to when i was a kid in the early 90s that i cant even be bothered illegally downloading any of todays bands albums, except tool really so i just briefly listen on youtube. im gonna get a tube amplifier and a record player and buy my favourite classics

Lol, I like how everyone's honest and say they steal the music. Then they get caught and arrested...
#12
I bought 98% of my 2700+ songs. The only thing I download are live bootlegs and B-Sides.

I buy 100% of my studio albums, though.

Both, I'll eventually buy all of the CDs anyway. I never download Buckethead, he doesn't get tons of money like a lot of other artists. I even extend a hand and donate to him directly once a year. As for iTunes, that to me is a waste, paying for data is worthless, go buy the album.
#17
i used to download off limewire and stuff,
but ever since i decided i wanted to be a musician, i started buying songs because it's killing the music idustry and stuff, and it would piss me off if people could get a year or more's worth of hard work for free in a few seconds. so yea, i buy cd's now

A bit of both, but I always buy CDs of my favourite bands, or albums that I really like. I sometimes download an album to check it out. Sometimes I buy mulitple albums, I have two copies of Era Vulgaris for example. Collecting CDs is actually kind of a hobby of mine.
#20
I download generally. If I end up liking it, I go buy something by the band or go see them at a show, or both. If I don't like it, I delete it. It's kind of like a preview system. I don't have the money to be buying everything I want to check out.

All 6000 odd tracks downloaded. 40 GBs of free music. And I don't feel bad at all.

I don't pay for my music to feel good about myself. I just like the artwork.

Most of the music I posses is bought, the rest is downloaded either being legally free or not.

The amount of times I have to restrain myself from buying a release solely because of the artwork is far too often.

98% of the time I will download if the band is big like muse or ac/dc. I hate how record labels take such a large cut of the money from album sales so I would rather support the band by paying to go and see them live. saying that, if I have the choice with a small band I will buy their album to support them

I too have fallen into that trap. Sometimes it turns out to have been a great decision, other times not so much...

I download. But if I couldnt download, I still wouldn't go buy the CD, I wouldn't pay for the music, I would rather just not have it. Either way, they are not getting my money.

I think having an album in your hands, with track notes, credits, extras and artwork is a heck of a lot better than some mp3's on a computer, also.

Considering the ridiculous underground stuff I usually listen to (Ikuinen Kaamos, Persefone, Kathaarsys, just to name a few), and the preppy hiphoprnbBS city I live in, it's impossible to find a decent album. So I usually download. To add to that, I find bands faster than I make money.
#34
Buy, and it really hurts my wallet at times. My latest list, so far, comes to about £70 and I'm not quite done.

I don't like to download things illegally. I'd rather see the small amount of my £8 per album go to the artist and the label take the rest than not give anything to them at all.
#35
If you buy a CD from anyone other than the band themselves, you're usually supporting the industry that exploits musicians more than the musicians themselves.

Download music. If you like an artist, go to their show and buy merch. That's what helps em out the most.
#36
i love buying new CD's and think supporting a band is great but downloading is also good to. . . why u ask? simply because when u download a bands song if u like it u will probably download some more and then by the CD and also maybe see them in concert. So downloading really can make profit for a band. And if u hear a song on the radio that u like ur not going to go spend $20 and buy the CD u will want to hear more first to see if the rest is good because singles on radios can be decieving. and if u think u always need to by CD's if its someone like Metallica, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles etc. they already have enough money so feel free to download and support if you like. sorry for the wall of text its just a big opinion i have and my rant for they day.
