Not sure if this is where this goes, but whatever.

I'm watching the BLS "Doom Troopin'" DVD, and I'm seeing/hearing that Zakk has a lot of vocal effects on his mic live...does anyone have any idea of what he might be using?

Thanks!

I have not seen the video but I do know that zakk uses a talk box quite a bit. if it is atube coming off the mic then that is what you are seeing. in the studio it sounds like he adds a bit of chorus to his vocal tracks which is an old zz top trick as Sir Billy often added chorus and a bit of flanger to his vocals.

It's not the talkbox, this an actually effect on his vocals themselves. The guitar is uneffected.

Good call on the chorus though. After you referenced the ZZ Top thing, I went back to the BLS video today, and I would have to say that it is a slight chorus effect.

So I guess now my question is can you just run a mic through a guitar pedal [Ex: Boss Super Chorus] to get this kind of effect live?

yeah, it sucks that the cheapest vocal processor you can get is $200. you could try using a chorus on your voice, but i think the quality would suck since they're meant to work with guitar frequencies.
