Hey guys, check out my new song. I wanted to mix up a lot of different features into it. I try to mimic the Chinese pipa by tremelo picking. Most of the song has a Chinese flare to it and is very Cacophony influenced. There are also some polyrhythms in the verses. The vocals and lyrics are provided by a talented friend of mine.

Anyways, here it is, enjoy.

And as always, C4C.

...modes and scales are still useless.

Hey man .
I've listened to a couple of your tunes and I really found them amazing.
Really enjoyed this one . Definatly a Chinese vibe to it .
You have some mad skill dude. There's definatly a Marty F./Becker vibe to it.
The vocals came unexpected but they were really great.
It's rare that you hear such amazing music mixed with vocals.

This is pretty cool. However the distorted guitar at the same as the singing isn't a very good choice of background for song.

I must say, I was very surprised when it finally got going. It's a damn good arangement and very well done. The vocals aren't as bad as some are saying. They do need to be redone, but only because there were a few places where the vocals were flat. The tone on the guitar makes the song sound a little cheesy, but not in the whole song. Some places it works rather well, other places it could use something a little more full. The drums and bass were great!!

Over all I liked it!!

Well, since you don't have your own thread, I'll just comment here:

You got a lot of chops and have some interesting melodic ideas. I don't think you even need me to tell you that haha.

Is this your own tune or is it a rendition? If it's your own tune, I would try to focus more on writing and developing the theme more. And if it's a rendition, you need to emphasize the theme more because I couldn't really tell.

And also, don't take this the wrong way: your guitar playing is great. But I have to be honest and point out that there is not much jazz element to it other than scale choices. I know it's fusion, but I would really like to hear more of the idiomatic language of jazz and your playing screamed all rock and almost no jazz. Also, keep things in moderation. Sometimes just holding or repeating the same note can achieve a much greater effect than a slew of really fast notes. Regardless, it was great.

the chinese flare effect sounds awesome

what scale/mode are you using?

Well, much of traditional Chinese music uses the major pentatonic scale exclusively, with an added 2nd/9th interval. So, that's what I used. The way pentatonic scale is used in Chinese music however, differs from western music such as rock/blues/jazz. How they use it is too long and complex to explain. You're just going to have to find that out for yourself, haha.

...modes and scales are still useless.

Thank you very much
It was a spontaneus jam.
I downloaded the backing track and recorded this .
The melodies were completly fresh and not pre-composed.
I really don't like labeling music but this is what came out when I tried to play a bit jazzy stuff so that's why I reffered to it as jazz fusion.

Thank you and rock on
