I hope this is the right place to ask this..

anyway, I know there's a thread in the tabs forum about solos from songs. That's great and all, but I'm not too keen to learn other's solos before I can solo myself. So I was wondering, what techniques and scales I should learn before I can give it a go?

I can make a easy and simple enough solo with the pentatonic box scale (if that's the correct name for it..) but I find it more rock than metal, and I'm usually playing metal (wich makes it a no go...) so with that in mind, I'd like to get help.

Thanks,

learn your major scale. Learn these licks.

if you don't like these learn metal licks. you will learn how to solo by copying others. it comes with the territory. Its the best way to learn for me.

learn how you can move any pattern to play it in a different key. You can use any damn scale you want for metal. you just gotta be ugly and use a lot of distortion so its real metal.
