Okay, as some of you know, I'm a huge fan of Underworld, definitely my favorite band at the moment.

However, I'm looking for a more ambient style. This is a perfect example:

I really like this composition. Any recommendations for artists or songs like this?

Check out Aphex Twin, really good stuff, also very ambient. In fact, his first album is called Selected Ambient Works.

This. Is. BLASPHEMY.
People probably would say that the Boards of Canada link was demonry in the classical era. It is one of the most cynical songs I've ever heard.

Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children is pretty much all like that

Underworld's ok.. that stuff gets boring real fast. Although Born Slippy is great.

Also.. Brian Eno - Most of the solo ambient albums
Radiohead - Kid A (not all like this, but amazing, nonetheless)
Sigur Ros - () and Agaetis Byrjun

Try some Plaid, quite similar to BoC. I'll be back with some more recommendations in a minute.

Go to the electronic and dance thread in Other. There's a fair few in the know there.

BlackZeppelin is like Ghandi. With a bigger sense of humor.
it's the silence between the notes that makes the music.

To those who said Air... Air's an amazing band, one of my favorites, but I don't think they fit what he's looking for.

Papua New Guinea'- The Future Sound Of London,

Great track I'm not too hot on the ambient stuff though. It's all about the early hardcore and jungle/dnb.

Radioheads more recent output like Hail To the Theif and In Rainbows has a similar sort of feel.

It's like electronica made with proper instruments.

Surely you mean "conventional instruments"

There's a HUGE thread in the "Other" forum about electronic music and the like.

But, IMHO, get "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" by Aphex Twin.

It may not be 100% like Boards of Canada, but, IMO, that album is essential listening for anyone who like electronic music.

I love every albums I've heard from Mr. Richard D. James so far (SAW 85-92, Come to Daddy, Windowlicker, druqks), and I'm still on the journey to hear it all.

He's my #1 electronic influence, currently.

Exactly, I don't think I've heard a bad thing by him.

Also I forgot to mention that some of Venetian Snares' more melodic tracks may be of interest to you (TS).

Haha, he's really quite amazing. I recently downloaded Renoise because I heard that's what I heard Aaron was working with but have absolutely no idea how to use it. I suppose it's over to the tutorial videos again.

I'm working in Fl Studio 7, at the moment.

I'm kinda learning as I go. It's kinda hard to find good tutorial videos without having an account somewhere (I pirated my version), so it's really just a matter of toying around with things.

I also really want to get into circuit bending. That stuff's crazy.

This Will Destroy You
Red Sparowes
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Fourtet
Kunek
Populous
Fennesz
Mogwai
Do Make Say Think
Autechure
Kammarheil
Sigur Ros

theres a million more, but I can't think right now

check out "morrmusic" on youtube they have some really good artists that are similar to that

You might even like some bands like Can and Neu and Kraftwerk and older bands like that.
And we will weave in and out of sanity unnoticed

Banco de Gaia .... any of his albums, Last Train to Lhasa is a good one.

Saafi Brothers .... Mystic Cigarettes

Kraftwerk of course.

DJ Shadow

Western Rebel Alliance.

Rabbit in the Moon

The Northern Exposure album from Sasha and John Digweed is something you might very well like, Sasha has other good stuff too...

Ummmm.... ambient isn't especially my thing, but I can probably name a decent amount of ambient-ish works that have a bit more pep or jazz to them but are still more down-tempo than their respective genres (if they really fit into them).

Otherwise, don't have most of my music with me and can't think of any off the top of my head atm.

Edit: and how the hell did I forget the Future Sound of London!?! Might as well add Blue Planet Corporation while im at it
