So I'm a total tube noob, looking to put some new tubes and new speakers in my Peavey Classic 30.

So heres some pictures:

First things first: I have no idea what any of those tubes are. I don't know which are preamp, which are power, or like that.

I guess I'm asking for a little bit of help figuring that part out, and recommendations on what tubes to replace them with.

On to the speakers: What in your opinion should I put in there? Yeah... that's about it.

Would this be something I could do myself? I'm not that "engineerical" so I hope I won't end up destroying anything.

I'm looking for an Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin, Taproot type of tone out of it.

Sorry If I'm too overly noobish about this. And thanks for your help.

Hmmm, I would go for speakers. I'm thinking Warehouse V-30 clones, just put one in my Vk today, and it sounded great after some breaking in.
Gibson SG Standard
Gibson Les Paul Traditional
Cort Explorer
Squire Standard Strat rebuilt with Fender USA parts
Squire Tele
Krank 1980

The big tubes are power tubes, EL84's to be exact.
And the smaller tubes are preamp tubes, 12ax7's.

Get a quad of JJ EL84's, and a trio of Tung-sol 12AX7's.
As for speakers, cruise around for warehouse speakers.

Preamps are the smaller ones and poweramp tubes are bigger. I would personally go with JJ EL84s and Tungsol 12ax7s. That is what I am going to put in my Crate V16 (very similar amp). For a speaker you might want a Celestion G12H or a clone of that speaker from warehousespeakers.com

Edit: ^ Wow dark, you really beat me to it with that one.

Do they have JJ El84's at Guitar Center?

Which speaker is that there? There is apparently a replacement speaker for a G12H30, but no G12H at 12" sizes.

Are the speakers at warehouse speakers of the same quality as a celestion?

I'm thinking of going with https://ssl.eurotubes.com/cart/index.php?page=view_products&category_id=8&sub_category_id=33

They seem to have some pretty good deals, and they sell all the tubes together.

Rock / High Gain Option for Peavey C30, C50 and DB Amps
Price: 76.50
Description: A matched quad of the JJ EL84's along with two hand picked high gain ECC83S's and a graded high current output ECC83S for V3. Very punchy and aggressive but still gives a great sparkling clean tone! Just let me know in the comments box on the check out page if your looking for max headroom, moderate, or an early breakup so I can select a proper grade for the power tubes.

I guess I would tell him that I want an early breakup for a quicker distortion.

Those eurotube sets sound good, but they're ALL JJ.
JJ makes great power tubes, but their preamp tubes are love/hate tubes.
They sound good in the classic series, but I think tung sols would be better.

Ok, if I was to get them from tube depot, which type of 12ax7s should I get?

http://tubedepot.com/ts-12ax7.html

I don't know what all of the options are. So far i have picked two high gain tubes and 4 JJ El84's.

And back on to Speakers, what is good about the G12H's? Would it be best to go with two Vintage 30's or something more expensive? Or should I go with one vintage 30 and one G12H or G12H30?

Are the "warehouse speakers" of the same quality of the celestions?

Warehouse speakers are said to be very very good clones of Celestions. Some prefer the V30 clones to the originals because it is less ice picky and mid spikey.

I might be inclined to say get a Greenback clone, but they only handle 25 watts and your amp is 30. That is why I said G12 because it is like a higher powered Greenback but a little different. Check the Ultimate speaker thread because they know what is up and I am not exactly the best person to ask about speakers.

^The balanced triode probably isn't necessary, and I'm not sure how much different the high gain tube is compared to the standard, as I haven't bought one. You would be just fine, though, if you bought 3 standard test tubes. Maybe get a high gain tube for V1, just to test it.

Maybe a G12H, I think it's called. V30's are also excellent.
