Hey UG,

Time of the year again, String change time! Now, I need help, as I have no idea what string Gauge I will need for my guitar. I own a little strat copy guitar that I am restringing and I play metal, so i'm presuming i'm going to need a heavier tuning from Drop tunings... any strings people reccomend for metal?

Thansk alot,

Joe

Well i'd only use .12s for something like C Standard or Drop B, i could go to 1 step down with .10s and i wouldn't have a problem.

Whats the lowest tuning you'll go to?

Also, .12s for a step down is a bit much.

Drop C Most likely (CGCFAD)

Well, I use 10's in standard tuning. I tried tuning down a half step once to play along with a song, and they felt like rubber bands.

I'd suggest .11s or .12s
