I'm getting ready to change the pickups in my Schecter Damien 7, i'm sticking with EMGs as it already has EMGHZ 7As in it...I just prefer actives. From experience I know the 81-7 has tighter bass and mids while the 707 is more suited to shredding, since I play prog this should be an easy choice but I like to riff a lot as well and I tend to use 6 and 7 string arpeggios in solos, so which should i get?

If it were me I would say the 81-7 and the 707TW... 81-7 in the bridge, 707TW for the neck. I dunno if you know about the 707TW but apparently you can switch it to single coil mode as well which is really nice. Honestly I would go with that one, seems to be very versatile and offers a more natural low end response..

The 707TW would certainly would be more suiting for cleans in single coil mode, has the Alnico magnets like the 85 so it offers a smoother sound and has about the same amount of output so I don't know how you could go wrong...

Apparently the 81-7 kinda sucks, so I dunno

some people use 707 for neck and bridge.

The 81-7 certainly wouldn't suck.. ^^^ has various reviews, if you read the first person's he actually put it in a Damien 7 as well, everyone that posted agreed on its excellence.

As for your neck pick up, you can't really go wrong with the 707 or 707TW, but it's up to you. =)
