So my brother has a record, and has been in and out of jail for minor offenses. Lately hes been around and sometimes I give him rides places since he can't drive anymore. Usually just to a gas station or dropping him off at a friends house.

So in such a course I found myself tonight, with little concern, as always. Never has the thought even once been laid upon my mind that it may endanger me, or lead to altercations with the law involving myself. And so I was about an hour ago, persisting in my near sightedness, even within the depths of that 'shady' part of our town I had driven my brother to. What ignorance!

A quick stop, an explanation offered by my brother - quickly accepted and with little regard - and then the turn for home. But upon the street thereafter we passed a cop. Even now, of little weight upon my mind. Oh, but the tail light! I have yet to fix it - but these are dangerous streets, much more needing of the law's influence than my little green Escort!

Not so. "Is this your car?" the officer asked from behind the blinding light. Only now a glimmer of the question falls upon my mind. "Yes sir!" I replied. License, registration... proof of insurance. ....Always such a wait! Finally my information is returned. "Do you have ID on you, sir?" he asks my brother. "No sir..."
"Name?"
"Pat Hannon."
But wait, my brothers name is Joel!
"Have a middle name?"
"Uuuhhh..."
"Do you have a middle name on your license?"
"No... no sir."

More waiting. Driver, step out of the car. I walk back with the officer. He asks me who my brother is. I don't talk, considering if it'd be worth it to plead the fifth. What could they do? I realize my brother is most certainly going back to jail - he had a warrant out for dodging parole - so as the officer gets a bit annoyed at my silence, it finally falls upon my head like a bag of bricks... this involves me very much. "Hes my brother." I say in a low tone.
'Whats his name?"
"Joel Ford."
"Why are you assisting him in..." I am now on the wrong side of the law, is what he's saying.
"Look. I'm telling you hes my brother, he has a warrant. I know I don't have to tell you anything else, that's what you need to know."
My brothers in the cop car now. And I'm their main focus, up by the hood of a cruiser.
"Step up here... interlace your fingers behind your head. Spread your legs. Is there anything illegal in your car?"
"No."
"Mind if we search it?"
"No sir."
Aaaaaand a bag of weed.
"You're a bad liar."

The whole time I do a very good job of playing it cool. As I saw the weed I didn't immediately realize it was my brother's, and for a split second I just though, 'wow, they really do plant stuff on people!' But anyways, they end up letting me go. I guess they could see that I wasn't scared, or a pothead, or was actually hiding anything. I do like to think that my use of the 5th may have gotten me out of actually being arrested. They must have taken it out of my brother's pocket and made me think that it was actually in the car or on the seat. Still, obviously as far as they're concerned I was buying weed with him. Hopefully I don't get harassed.

So now I know how dumb I've been by driving my brother around. That was the first time it was to any place that was shady. But still... shouldn't have been so stupid.

Vikings? What Vikings? We are but poor, simple farmers. The village was burning when we got here, and the people must have slain themselves.

Your brother seems like an ass. There's no reason he should be subjecting you to that type of situation, especially if you're helping him out of the goodness of your own values.

Well, more like dumb. I mean I really doubt that if he had thought that it would almost lead to me going to jail with him, he would have still asked me to drive him there. Like I said, it never crossed my mind, only in the very middle of that effed up situation did I really realize what was all happening.

Hmmm...doesn't really seem too considerate of your brother to put you in that situation. Do you know how much weed it was? It is very much possible to him to get charged with a serious felony depending on how much he had. Now that would suck ass.

That's the risk you take when you drive people around, if you get pulled over all they have to do is throw a bag of weed in your car and say "it's his" and they're off the hook and you get screwed.
