I bought the Spider Valve HD100. And it broke within 2 weeks. I replaced it with a Mesa. But that doesn't matter to you. It had pretty decent metal tone. That's not really my style, but the Spider Valve is incredibly tweakable. I was never a fan of the AT series. Go for the spider valve.

Ok, so do u think the line 6 has a good metal tone, or could u think of a better one for around the same price range

What are you gonna use it for? Do you need a lot of wattage?

b-52

the spider valve was a gimmick to me, sounded just like the spider 3's.

B-52. But also look into stuff like Bugera, and used Peavey 5150's/6505's if cleans aren't that important to you.

yeah. hah. if you don't need much wattage, and you were thinking about spending a grand on a b-52, look into the Mesa Express 5:25s...they're only a couple hundred more. peavey valvekings are in this range too.

well, Im looking at Peavey 5150s on ebay. Is that the only place to get them for under 1000 dollars?
#12
yar, but if your playing in your house you might want to get something ≤30 watts

Well atm I have a Vox ad 50vt and Im looking to improve. The reason I dont like the vox is because it doesnt have the metal tone Im looking for
#14
im going to take it your budget is <$1000 (us?) and you want a metal tone?
...

I've played both, the B-52 is definitely better.

the jsx is based on a vintage amp, not much for metal

But for that cheap, it's got good tone, and you can drop a BBE Crusher or Tube Screamer in front.

And by a show of hands, how many people have actually played the Spider Valve?
All the other hands...do you think it's just like another Spider? Play it.

I have, even got to play it in a sound proof room...nothin

Don't get me wrong, I despise the amp, but that's for reasons other than the typical spider crap.

Well is the B-52 worth the $1,000, or can I buy another HS or combo better for metal at that price?
#25
You can definitely do better for a grand. There's no way in hell that you need a 100 watt tube amp, though. That amp is going to provide you the best metal sounds it can make when it gets pushed hard (high volume)...you'll never be able to come anywhere close to pushing it in your house. Get a 25 or 50 watt tube amp. Trust me. Preferably something with a switch for 5w or 7w or something like that.

the line 6 valve is not ****. its actually a very nice sounding amp, especially at high volumes, unlike the spiders. you really wont need a stack anyway

I think you should get the B-52 AT212 combo instead of the stack... You can still use it to run a cab later if you want, and it's the exact same amp as the head.

You'll save a couple to few hundred bucks that way.

And the B-52 AT series is hos...

if you want to go Line 6 and an amp that sounds better at lower volumes, get a Flextone. i actually want one myself.

i've actually played a spider valve before myself, it was thin and tinny, better than a spider three, but it didn't give me the bottom end or tightness that i was looking for.
