What do you all think is the most depressing song ever written?
I'll lay waiting, just waiting for my time to come

It's really depressing becasue you realise that you've lowered down to the pit's level.

i forgot where i heard this but apparently there was a study done on sad music and brain activity. The result was "The Drugs Don't Work" by The Verve. That according to study is the saddest song ever written. I guess I'll go listen to it again. Haven't heard it in awhile.

Song or Suicide by H.I.M.
"Ignorance runs rampant through this virus we call life, dead one day, alive the next, never breaking a stride. As I take it all in and realize, nothing we do can stop it, I release the hatred from my eyes, only to feel it within."

I think Ghetto Gospel - Tupac is quite sad.

But so is the Elton John song sampled in it, i think its called Indian sunset.

Good messages to take away from the songs but still v. sad.

Hurt by Nine Inch Nails is pretty good but it's not really all that depressing.

The Drugs Don't Work is a very sad song. I'd also go with Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday.
There is poetry in despair.

Lithium - Nirvana ??

That's what I was going to say. If you want to just go by most depressing song title, I would have to say I Hate Myself and Want to Die by Nirvana would be most depressing, even if the song other than the title isn't too depressing.

I have schizophrenia, I talk to myself,

A lot of great ones have already been said, but...

The bass solo (or duet with Kirk) that Jason Newstead does live, the main melody to My Friend Misery.

The Scientist, by Coldplay.

The Rip, Portishead. Roads, too.

Into the West, and Alright, by Pilot Speed.

Breathe Me, Sia.

Big Chair, Travis.

How to Disappear Completely, Radiohead. And, Bulletproof... I Wish I Was.

I Remember, Damien Rice.

Another Lonely Day, Ben Harper.

Yh me too. It does for me coz of my grandfather though. Coz the drugs didnt work for him and genuinely made him worse. There was a period where i couldnt listen to the song without crying, but it was the only song i wanted to listen to. Strange but true.

I can do it without crying now though. Lucky me.

EDIT:

Actually, Creep (Radiohead) is kinda sad aswell really.

Tears in Heaven aswell.
